Yorkshire’s D40 Quest side suffered a Roses defeat – by 106 runs – to Lancashire in the National League North Group at Higham CC today.
The Red Rose, national champions, claimed their third straight win to start the season as they posted a 40-over total of 283-6 before bowling their hosts out for 177.
Lancashire were set en-route to victory in Barnsley by England mixed disability international Tom Meskell’s excellent unbeaten 142 off 106 balls from number three. Meskell hit 20 fours and a six.
Lewis Daniels, who had a good day, and Alex Jervis struck twice apiece for Yorkshire, whose first completed match of the season ended in defeat.
They had their season-opener against Derbyshire abandoned by rain a fortnight ago at Glossop when 62-0 in their first innings.
In pursuit of 284 against Lancashire today, wicketkeeper-opener Curtis Sugden with 27 looked like being the lone hand. But last pair Daniels and captain Cameron Cooper gave the scorecard some respectability in entertaining fashion as they added 62 in 47 balls.
Daniels contributed 25 not out off 27 balls, while Cooper cracked 37 off 27 before being bowled by James Dixon to finish things off.
Matty Tamburro claimed three wickets for Lancashire.
Yorkshire are next in Quest action when they host Cheshire in a fortnight.
