Day 2

Apologies that there is no report for day one but I was otherwise engaged scoring the Test match “down the road” – what a game and what a privilege.

Quick summary of day 1 – our visitors, on a rain interrupted day, ended at 206-4.

Starting day 2 Corbett and Heldreich remained unbeaten until the lunch interval reaching 284-4. Corbett was 61 not out, his half century coming from 138 balls with 5 fours and a six. Heldreich was unbeaten on 92 from 192 balls with 12 fours.

Immediately after lunch Matt Milnes made the breakthrough bowling Heldreich without addition to his score – 285-5. Ex “Yorkie”, Dom Leech made 6 before he was caught behind by Jonny Tattersall off Ben Coad and Corbett was the 8th wicket to fall, caught in the gully by Tom Fraine off Joe Pocklington (he made 80 from 212 balls) – 325-8 and they were finally dismissed for 342.

Jonny Tattersall and Will Luxton opened our reply and had reached 65 before Luxton was caught at mid on for 36 from 29 balls with 7 fours and a six. Harry Duke joined Tattersall and at tea we were 70-1.

After tea we reached 91 before Tattersall was adjudged lbw for 31 from 40. Jordan Thompson came in at number 4 and after a cautious start (7 from 14) he reached his half century from 47 balls with 7 fours, he then reached his century (with a six) from only a further 28 balls and at the close he was 122 not out from 90 balls with 15 fours and 5 sixes.

Meantime Harry Duke supported him reaching his half century from 112 balls with 7 fours and finishing unbeaten on 66 from 149 balls.

At close of play Yorkshire 277 – 2, trailing by 65 with 2 days remaining

Day 3

Yorkshire began the day on 277 – 2, trailing by 65 with 2 days remaining. Jordan Thompson was retired “not out” but Harry Duke was caught at gully in the first over of the day bringing Yash Vagadia to the crease. He and Noah Kelly added 44 for the 4th wicket before Kelly was caught behind for 23: 321-4.

Joe Pocklington made 2 before being bowled and Vagadia was lbw for 43 from 70 balls with 5 fours. Tom Fraine was caught at slip and at lunch we had added 99 runs but lost 5 wickets – 376-7.

Jawad Akhtar and Matt Milnes continued in the afternoon and had extended their partnership to 42 when Milnes was caught at 2nd slip for 26 from 37 – 404-8. This became 404-9 and 410 all out. Yorkshire led by 68 runs.

Northants reduced the deficit by 27 before Miller was caught behind by Duke off Brad Sylvester. Joe Pocklington and Jawad Akhtar then bowled in tandem and at tea had reduced our visitors to 71-4, leading by 3.

Opener, Buchake made 35 and Corbett 47 but Akhtar took 2-45 from 18 overs and Pocklington 6-64 from 20 overs as they were dismissed for 165 including the last pair adding 19 but using up 92 deliveries. This meant that Yorkshire required 98 runs for victory – 2 overs were possible before the close and 13 runs were added without loss – the final day beckons with Yorkshire needing a further 85 runs for victory.

Day 4

Yorkshire began the day on 13 without loss, needing a further 85 for victory with all second innings wickets remaining. However Will Luxton was dismissed lbw in the first over for 4 but Harry Duke joined Tattersall and they took us to the brink of victory adding 78 in 62 balls when with 3 required Duke was bowled for 25.

Tattersall hit the winning runs leaving him 64 not out from 50 balls with 14 fours.
