Yorkshire’s boys’ Academy side were beaten by two wickets in yesterday’s thrilling Under 18s County Cup final by Somerset at Kibworth.
The White Rose had reached the final for the last three years, but they were unable to back up the 2024 success.
Yorkshire were bowled out for 223, with Callum Armstrong top-scoring with 52 and captain Peter Greenfield contributing 48. A number of batters got starts but were unable to go on having been inserted.
In reply, Somerset slipped to 27-5 inside six overs and later 92-7. Theo McLelland impressed with 4-53 from his eight overs.
Unfortunately, though, Somerset recovered thanks to a superb eighth-wicket stand of 118 between Nicholas Watson and Jack Blackwell, who made 46 and 66 not out respectively.
The Taunton side won with a little more than 13 overs to spare.
