Day 1

Winning the toss, Yorkshire elected to bowl first, however at lunch Hampshire had reached 125-1 with Ashman 42 not out and Halstead-Cleak 49 not out – their partnership being 75 from 106 balls.

The only wicket to fall was Orr, caught at cover by Noah Kelly off the bowling of Ben Cliff for 27 with the total at 50.

Post lunch Ben Cliff took a wicket with the first ball having Halstead-Cleak caught behind for 49. Ashman reached his 50 from 68 balls with 9 fours but he was caught at extra cover by Charlie Taylor for 59 to give Cliff his 3rd wicket; 152-3.

Hishaam Khan, who spent the early part of the season as a trialist with Yorkshire, made 46 from 78 balls before he too was caught behind off Alex Wade and Gillett was taken at fine leg by Yash Vagadia off Taylor and Hampshire were 225-5 and at tea Salter and Patel had taken the score to 266-5.

Again, a wicket fell in the first over after a break – Patel being caught behind off Brad Sylvester. Neal was held at backward point by Kelly off Will Bennison 314-7, however the new ball went for 46 in the first 7 overs and at the close Hampshire were 432 without further loss – a total not helped by 5 dropped catches.

Day 2

The day commenced with Hampshire 432-7. Ben Cliff removed Lumsden for his overnight score of 57, caught at mid -wicket by Charlie Taylor and shortly after he bowled Williams to bring up a 5 wicket haul. Hampshire reached 450 and a 5th batting point before Salter was caught at deep mid-wicket by Jawad Akhtar off Taylor having made 133 from 169 deliveries with 14 fours and 4 sixes – Hampshire 450 all out, Cliff 5-49.

As yesterday the first over after a break brought a wicket and it was the centurion, Bennison for 106 caught at 1st slip. Jonny Tattersall departed in the same manner and we were now 246-3. Kelly reached 85 from 167 balls before being caught at leg slip.

Jawad Akhtar and Owen Smith took the total to 269-4 before bad light interrupted play at 5.10 pm and following a spell of rain play was abandoned for the day.

Day 3

Resuming at 269-4 the first ball of the day reduced the deficit by 4 but the last ball of the first over added one to the wickets column when Akhtar was caught behind for 24. Joe Thompson departed in the same manner the next over and shortly after Charlie Taylor was bowled without scoring and we were now 281-7.

Owen Smith was joined by Alex Wade and their unbeaten partnership saw us through to lunch at 378, a partnership of 97 in 192 balls: Smith was 42 not out from 118 balls and Wade reached his half century with a six in the last over before lunch (103 balls).

After lunch the partnership passed 100 but Smith was unfortunately run out for 46. When Ben Cliff was caught at mid on we were 399-9, Wade unbeaten on 61. Brad Sylvester joined Wade and they added 29 for the last wicket – all out 428, Wade 71 from 146 with 10 fours and a six.

Twelve overs were bowled before tea and Hampshire reached 41 without loss. Orr and Ashman extended their partnership to 83 before Charlie Taylor had Ashman lbw for 42 from 64 balls.

Orr reached his 50 from 94 balls with 6 fours and a six and he was joined by Khan. There were no more successes for Yorkshire and Hampshire closed on 193-1, a lead of 215. Khan 40 not out and Orr 99 not out.

Day 4

The final day began with Hampshire leading by 215 with 9 wickets in hand – Orr completed his century from 145 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. The lead had extended to 289 before a wicket was taken – Khan caught at point by Joe Thompson off Charlie Taylor – he made 62 from 130 balls with 8 fours.

Hampshire’s innings proceeded without a noticeable rise in the run rate and at lunch they were 304-5, leading by 326 with 67 overs remaining. There was a 3rd wicket for Taylor, Gillett caught at mid off by Ben Cliff, Salter run out and Orr caught at long off by Noah Kelly off Yash Vagadia for 150 from 197 balls with 17 fours and 4 sixes.

Post lunch the innings continued until a declaration at 360-8 left Yorkshire an improbable 383 to win from 53 overs. The final 3 wickets to fall all went to Will Bennison and it was he and Vagadia who opened our reply, however he was caught low at mid-wicket for 2; 11-1.

Tea arrived without further loss at 77-1; Vagadia 27 not out and Kelly 39 not out. The final session saw their partnership extend to 106 from 124 balls before Kelly was caught at deep mid-wicket for 58 from 63 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes.
