By John Virr – 2nd X1 Scorer

The final group game of the 2025 season started with Yorkshire winning the toss and electing to bat against a Durham side who had already qualified for finals day.

Finlay Bean was lbw to the first ball of the game before Noah Kelly and Yash Vagadia took the total to 21, however Kelly was caught at short third man for 15: 21-2. Jonny Tattersall was caught behind for 2: 32-3 at the end of the powerplay.

Harry Duke and Vagadia added 36 in 33 balls before the former was bowled for 22 from 18 and he was followed shortly after by Vagadia caught at deep square leg for 29 from 31. Thereafter only Ben Cliff reached double figures and our innings closed on 117-9.

Durham’s reply got off to a flyer with 31 coming from the first 2 overs, however Charlie Taylor struck twice in his first over having McKinney caught at mid on for 18 off 7 balls and Mustard without scoring, caught at mid wicket. Taylor struck again in his 2nd over and Durham were 56-3 at the end of their powerplay.

Young leg spinner, Louis Wilson then had Symington well taken at deep mid wicket by Vagadia and trapped Drissell lbw for 29 from 24 balls, Durham 73-5. Killeen and Bushnell then added 41 in 38 deliveries before Will Bennison took 2 wickets in an over but Durham prevailed winning by 3 wickets with 4.1 overs to spare.

Next 2nd X1 action is a 50 over friendly at Weetwood on Tuesday 15th July against Lancashire.
