Day 1

The return of Red ball Cricket was met by a delayed start due to several squally showers, however the game got under way at noon with Yorkshire being invited to bat first and 8 overs being lost from the days play.

Yash Vagadia and Noah Kelly scored freely and had taken the total to 37 when with the final ball of the 8th over the former was bowled by Haydon for 26 from 28 deliveries with 6 fours. Isaac Light came to the wicket but his stay was short as he too was bowled by Haydon but without scoring.

Harry Duke joined Kelly and at lunch they had taken the score to 61-2, Kelly unbeaten on 26 and Duke 8 no.

The early afternoon session saw the score advance to 111 before Kelly was bowled for 33 from 70 balls with 7 fours – he had added 74 with Duke in 102 balls, however this saw us go from 111-2 to 124-5.

Duke reached his half century from 55 balls with 9 fours but he was bowled for 52. Dom Bess hit 3 fours in his short stay as he became the 5th wicket to be bowled. Jawad Akhtar and Dom Leech added 26 before the latter was caught at mid wicket  for 9.

The returning Matt Fisher came in at number 8 and he made 31 from 29 balls and Akhtar was unfortunately run out at the non strikers end for 28. Hen-Boisen made 2 before the last wicket pair of Charlie McMurran and Chinmay Mullapudi added 37 as we were all out for 245.

Fisher struck with his 2nd ball, bowling Wagstaff and Leech soon equalled him by bowling Dickinson for 13, Derbyshire 21-2. However Tarrant and Bin-Naeem took the score to 84 before Hen-Boisen struck with the last ball of his first over bowling Tarrant for 46 from 72 balls with 9 fours. Dom Bess also bowled Patel with the 4th ball of the last over of the day and the hosts closed on 87-4, Yorkshire lead by 158.

Day 2

Resuming at 87-4 the home side dominated the morning session and reached lunch with no further loss and advancing their total to 216. Bin-Naeem reached his half century from 123 balls including 9 fours and Khunti his from 78 balls with 7 fours. The latter was dropped on 53 but at lunch he was 63 no and Bin-Naeem 67 no.

Post lunch their partnership continued to flourish and it was Khunti who was first to his century from 153 balls with 17 fours and their partnership passed 200 before Bin-Naeem reached his 100 from 216 balls with 16 fours.

Their partnership had reached 259 and survived 2 further missed chances before debutant, Charlie Taylor took his first wicket having Bin-Naeem caught behind for 123 from 252 balls with 19 fours and tea was taken with Derbyshire 355-5, a lead of 110.

After tea Khunti reached 150 from 224 balls with 25 fours and shortly after Carney was lbw to give Taylor his 2nd victim. Basra hit 50 from 56 balls before he was bowled by Charlie McMurran and the next ball he had Hassan lbw. Khunti was finally caught at long off by Matthew Fisher from the bowling of Jawad Akhtar for 173 and Haydon was bowled by Hen-Boisen to dismiss Derbyshire for 470 – a lead of 225.

Before Yorkshires 2nd innings could begin the Umpires decided that there could be no further play due to bad light.

Day 3

Day 3 saw Yorkshire commence their 2nd innings trailing by 225 and having also seen Noah Kelly travel to join the 1st team in Scarborough, his replacement being 16 year old Peter Greenfield.

Dom Bess joined Yash Vagadia in the opening partnership and they made 19 before Vagadia was lbw for 10. Isaac Light came in at number 3 and he and Bess took the score to 49 before a heavy shower called a halt to proceedings and an early lunch was taken at 12.45pm.

Post lunch they took their partnership to 76 before Bess was caught behind down the leg side – he made 47 from 80 balls with 8 fours. Light also made 47 and he was lbw to Toole – 121-3. Harry Duke became the third lbw victim for 13 and Matthew Fisher fell in the same fashion for 4 – Yorkshire 143-5.

Debutant Greenfield joined Akhtar and at tea had advanced the total to 169 still 56 behind. After tea both continued to bat sensible and it was Greenfield who fell first – another lbw – he made 28 from 51 balls with 5 fours Hen-Boisen joined Akhtar and they added 51 for the 7th wicket pushing us into the lead. Akhtar was bowled shortly before the new ball was due having made 53 from 150 balls with 7 fours.

Hen-Boisen made 327 from 61balls before he too was lbw and Mullapudi and McMurran saw us through to an early close (bad light) at 291-8, a lead of 66.

Day 4

Yorkshire were unable to add to their overnight total finishing 291 all out leaving Derbyshire 67 to win.

That it took almost 19 overs and 4 wickets were taken is some credit but does leave some “what ifs?”.

There were 2 wickets for Chinmay Mullapudi and 1 each for Matthew Fisher and Chalie McMurran.
