The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Will Bennison has signed his first professional contract with the county.

Just two weeks after scoring 103 for a Young Lions Invitational XI against India U19’s, the young batter has signed a two-year rookie contract, until 2027

Bennison, a product of Ouseburn CC and Sheriff Hutton CC in North Yorkshire who has been with the Club since the U10’s, will make the step up from the Yorkshire Academy where he’s impressed with substantial runs across both Academy and 2nd XI games over several years.

The 18-year-old said he was thrilled to have penned his new deal.

“Yorkshire is my home club so to be able to now say I’m a professional cricketer with the club is extremely special.

“I couldn’t have made it to this point without the incredible support of the Yorkshire Pathway. All the coaches I’ve had in that time have contributed massively to me making it to this point.

“I’m incredibly excited about what the future holds and I’m relishing the opportunity to continue my cricketing journey. I know the hard work starts now and I’m raring to go.”

The right-hander came to prominence for many when he scored 106 from 95 balls for the Second XI against Surrey last year at York, helping them chase down a mammoth 407 to win.

Bennison was awarded notable honours earlier this season, having been named alongside three of his Yorkshire Academy peers in an England Young Lions Invitational XI, impressing at the top of the order.

Yorkshire’s Head of Performance Pathway, James Martin said, “It’s been an absolute privilege to work with Will over several years.

“We’ve watched him develop as a very accomplished cricketer and his contract is just reward for the dedication he has shown. Special recognition must go to St Peters School in York and to Will’s family who have supported him immensely.

“Whilst Will is clearly a very talented cricketer, his work ethic and desire to improve has undoubtedly contributed towards him getting to this point.

“Everyone at the club and I know everyone in his family and at Sheriff Hutton CC too, will be incredibly proud to see Will sign his contract and we’re all excited to see him thrive in the years ahead.”
