Yorkshire batter Sam Whiteman was reflecting on a weather-interrupted opening day at Scarborough which saw his side fall to 6-2, recover to 121-2 and then slip to 144-5.
Doncaster-born Australian Whiteman was at the heart of Yorkshire’s best period of the day. He contributed a determined 49 and shared a 115-run partnership for the third wicket with James Wharton, who ended day unbeaten on 70.
Josh Davey struck twice for Leicestershire, while Jonny Tattersall claimed four catches behind the stumps.
“It was nice to put on a 100-run partnership with James Wharton, which put us in good stead. But the game turns pretty quickly, doesn’t it? continued Whiteman.
“A couple of wickets late on hurt us, particularly knowing that the weather was coming and how we could have set the game up. I still think we’ve had a pretty good day there.”
And he added: “I think Wharts and I worked well as a partnership.
“Obviously right-hand, left-hand helps, but the way he scores and I score complements each other. It’s just a shame because you always want more.”
