Australian seamer Jordan Buckingham has signed on for a four-match stint in this summer’s Rothesay County Championship, representing Yorkshire through May.
Aged 24, Buckingham is closing in on 100 first-class wickets. At time of writing, he had taken 84 from 23 appearances since debuting in March 2022.
Three of those came for Northamptonshire in his first taste of county cricket, in May 2023.
He worked under the coaching of now Yorkshire batting coach John Sadler during his time at Wantage Road.
Either side of that, the South Australia quick has played four times for Australia A and also for the Prime Minister’s XI, which serves a similar purpose Down Under.
Largely a new ball exponent, Buckingham actually claimed his first-class best of 7-71 for the Redbacks against Tasmania in late 2023 having come on as first change.

He took the new ball in the second innings of an innings-victory over England Lions in Brisbane at the start of February 2025, claiming 4-41. He was in the same attack as another of Yorkshire’s overseas signings, Will Sutherland.
Like Sutherland, Buckingham was born in Victoria but moved to their neighbouring state for greater opportunity.
He was handed his first-class debut by then South Australia coach Jason Gillespie, and his haul of wickets in that format include Pakistan great Babar Azam, Marnus Labuschagne and all-rounder Sutherland on three occasions.
In November 2023, Buckingham claimed the winning wicket – Usman Khawaja bowled – as one of three scalps as South Australia won a pulsating Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland at the Gabba as the hosts, chasing 273, slipped from 198-3 to 269 all out.
Buckingham played once in the 2024/25 Dean Jones (One-Day) Trophy, which South Australia won at the start of March.
He could also arrive at Headingley as a Sheffield Shield winner. At time of writing, they sit top of the ladder having won five of their eight matches so far.

Buckingham has claimed 15 wickets in three appearances.
He has a List A best of 6-41 to his name in five career appearances and has played three times for the Adelaide Strikers in T20 cricket – all at the start of 2025.
Buckingham is similar in stature to former Yorkshire player and title-winning coach Gillespie, while their actions are not a millions miles apart either.
