Will Sutherland is back with Yorkshire for a second spell in 2026, having signed an overseas deal identical to the one he had last summer.
The Australian all-rounder, a state and Big Bash captain, returns to Headingley through the heart of the season and represents the seventh new men’s signing of the New Year – and the fourth overseas.
In that respect, he follows compatriot Jhye Richardson, Naveen-ul-Haq and Logan van Beek.
Sutherland, a seamer and lower middle order batter, will be available for the entire Vitality Blast campaign as well as two mid-season Rothesay County Championship matches in June, against Warwickshire at Scarborough and Leicestershire at Grace Road.
Last summer, he signed for the full Blast and two Championship matches, though ended up staying on to play three times in Division One.
In 12 Blast appearances, he contributed 10 wickets with his seamers added to 208 runs in the middle order, including a half-century. He added four wickets and 63 in the Championship.

Victoria state captain Sutherland, aged 26, is set to record his 200th senior all-format career appearance whilst playing for Yorkshire this summer
He has only just played his 188th, in a big Sheffield Shield win over a Western Australia side captained by his White Rose team-mate to be Sam Whiteman.
In that, Sutherland scored an excellent, brisk unbeaten 101 from the lower middle order – his career best score and second first-class century.
Two of Sutherland’s all-format appearances were a pair of ODI appearances for Australia at home against Sri Lanka in February 2024.
Prior to recruiting him last summer, current White Rose head coach Anthony McGrath signed him to play for Essex in 2023, though unfortunately that deal was cancelled because of a back stress fracture.
Sutherland will hopefully return to Headingley in the coming months with a Sheffield Shield title under his belt. His Victoria side have qualified for the late March final. A win would seal their first trophy of any sort since March 2019 when they won their 32nd Shield title.

Sutherland made his first-class debut later that year.
He is also captain of the Big Bash side, Melbourne Renegades.
Will’s younger sister Annabel is a regular in Australia’s women’s team as an all-rounder herself, and she has previous experience of playing at Headingley having represented the Northern Superchargers in the Hundred.
Will was also a talented junior Australian Rules footballer and, as a teenager, had to choose between the two sports.
