The Nominees

George Hill

George Hill produced a superb all-round month for Yorkshire, contributing 171 runs and 14 wickets across all competitions.

Hill was instrumental in the One-Day Cup victory over Derbyshire, taking 2-46 before smashing an unbeaten 63 from just 49 balls to help Yorkshire chase down 279. He also claimed three wickets against Middlesex, two against Essex and struck with the new ball in the quarter-final against Nottinghamshire.

His form continued into the County Championship, where he produced outstanding figures of 5-29 against Hampshire, helping Yorkshire to a crucial 39-run victory, before making 37 in the second innings. Hill then rounded off August with an excellent 62 against Leicestershire at Scarborough.

James Wharton

James Wharton was Yorkshire’s outstanding run-scorer during August, accumulating 351 runs across the six matches and passing 40 on five occasions.

Wharton struck 40 against Middlesex, followed by 75 in the victory over Derbyshire and an unbeaten 51 against Essex as Yorkshire secured a home One-Day Cup quarter-final. He then added 44 against Nottinghamshire.

The 25-year-old carried that consistency into the Championship, contributing 24 and 47 in the victory over Hampshire before top-scoring with 70 against Leicestershire at Scarborough.

Will Bennison

Will Bennison enjoyed a breakthrough One-Day Cup campaign and produced three excellent half-centuries during August, scoring 227 runs in four matches.

The young batter made a first-team best 63 against Middlesex at Lord’s before bettering it with 60 from 59 balls in Yorkshire’s seven-wicket victory over Essex.

Bennison saved his best performance for the knockout stages, striking a superb 91 against Nottinghamshire at York. His innings underpinned Yorkshire’s 273-9 and was his third fifty in four August appearances.
