Travis Head, Yorkshire’s former overseas batsman, a Big Bash winning captain and a current big-hitting Australia limited overs international. Not a bad scalp as your maiden first-team wicket, hey Jordan Thompson?
The 21-year-old Academy product from Leeds made his senior debut in Sunday’s Vitality Blast win over North Group leaders Worcestershire at Blackfinch New Road.
An all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm bustling seamers, Thompson impressed.
He hit 12 not out off six balls at the end of Yorkshire’s innings, boosting the total to 179-7 with a four over cover and a six over wide long-on.
In defence, he had left-handed Head caught at deep mid-wicket by Gary Ballance to leave the Rapids at 58-5 and finished with figures of 1-33 from four overs.
Then, to cap off a memorable day, he held on to a smart catch at deep mid-wicket to help Steve Patterson remove Luke Wood at the start of the penultimate over. Wood was Worcester’s last realistic hope of victory.
Thompson earned praise from White Rose coach Andrew Gale in his post match interview, while former captain Ballance was also impressed with the Pudsey St Lawrence man.
