The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of Sam Whiteman.
The 33-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has signed a three-year all format contract with the White Rose and will join up with Yorkshire at the end of the current Australian domestic season.
Whiteman, who was born in Doncaster but emigrated to Western Australia aged three, has become a prolific run scorer in Sheffield Shield cricket for the Perth based outfit.
In 119 first class games to date he has scored 6930 runs including 17 centuries, averaging a touch under 36. A stint with Northamptonshire in 2023 was a fruitful one – he averaged over 37 and scored two centuries and three fifties.
Having been made captain of Western Australia, Whiteman led the state to Sheffield Shield titles in 2023 and 2024, having already played an integral role in their 2022 triumph.
Whiteman has also won the Big Bash title three times with the Perth Scorchers.
As a British passport holder, he will play as a local domestic player.

He returns home to Yorkshire excited to get stuck in.
“I’m thrilled to have signed with my home county. The timing is right for me to return to the UK and once the opportunity arose for me to sign with Yorkshire, it was one that was too good for me to turn down.
“I cannot wait to step out onto Headingley for the first time. It’s the best ground and best wicket in the English game and it’ll be a really proud moment for me to pull on the Yorkshire shirt for the first time in April.”
Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket added, “Sam is an exceptional batter and a proven leader. He is an excellent signing for us and we are all so delighted to be signing him on a long-term contract.
“He has a very impressive record, and he is the profile of batsman and player that we value highly.
“Sam has proven himself at the highest level of cricket in Australia and the experience he has gained during his time there will be an incredibly important asset for us as we look to build further in 2026.
“We are all looking forward to welcoming Sam home in April.”
