Joe Root has been included in Yorkshire Vikings’ squad for tonight’s Vitality Blast match against Lancashire Lightning at Emirates Old Trafford.

Adil Rashid is not available for the remaining two group fixtures following a challenging summer schedule for England.

Rashid said: “Playing cricket this year for England has been more challenging given the circumstances around the bio-secure cricket. It has presented as challenging a time as I’ve ever had as a cricketer, particularly the sacrifices that people have made to spend extended time away from their families.

“I have enjoyed playing for Yorkshire since I was 11-years-old, but I need to spend time with my family after being away for so long.

“I would like to thank Yorkshire for fully understanding my situation and allowing me this time.”

Martyn Moxon, The Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s Director of Cricket said: “It has been a unique year for England’s cricketers and one where they have spent an extended period away from their families.

“We had a good chat with Adil and understand why he needs to spend time with his family. We look forward to seeing a refreshed Adil again over the winter.”
