Yorkshire’s Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow have been selected in a 12-man squad for the first Test Match of the summer against Pakistan at Lord’s.

Root will lead the Three Lions out for the first Test which starts on Thursday May 24 whilst Bairstow will continue to keep wicket. Both Yorkshiremen will be hoping to get the summer off to a good start and gain some momentum heading into the second and final Test Match against Pakistan at Emerald Headingley starting June 1.

Somerset spinner Dom Bess has been included in the squad for the first time.

Lancashire batsman Jos Buttler returns to the Test squad for the first time since December 2016 when he played in the fifth Test against India in Chennai.

Bess, the 20-year-old off spinner, has played 16 first-class matches and was impressive in the Champion County match for the MCC against Essex in March where he took eight wickets in the match and scored a valuable century in defeating the County Champions in Barbados.

Finlay Bean and Will Bennison opened cautiously adding 33 when at the end of the 10th over the bowler Newman got a touch on a straight drive from Bean and unfortunately Bennison was out of his ground – run out for 18. Harry Duke was caught at slip for 3 and Jawad Akhtar departed in the same way for 6.
