Man-of-the-series Joe Root hailed England’s rampant ODI side as they wrapped up a 4-1 win over Australia in Perth thanks to a thrilling comeback victory.

The Yorkshire star top-scored with 62 in England’s 259 all out, a score which looked well below par at one stage.

But Surrey seamer Tom Curran, in for injured Liam Plunkett, claimed his maiden ODI five-for as the Aussies slipped from a position of great authority to lose by 12 runs in the opening event at the new Optus Stadium.

Root scored 226 runs and took two wickets in a series which went some way to making up for the recent Ashes defeat. This may also have cushioned the blow of missing out on an Indian Premier League contract for Joe. But more of that later.
