On an overcast morning Worcestershire won the toss and asked Yorkshire to bat first. However with a much more experienced line up than in recent games it was a decision that may have regretted.
Will Fraine and Tom Kohler-Cadmore soon looked at ease and at lunch they were unbeaten with the total on 143, Fraine reached his 50 from 58 deliveries with 9 fours and was 71 not out at lunch; Kohler-Cadmore reached his half century also from 58 balls with 9 fours and a six.
After lunch they took their partnership to 250 in 322 balls and it had reached 270 when Fraine was run out – he had made 122 from 185 balls with 17 fours and a six. The saying goes that “1 brings 2” and it applied here when Kohler-Cadmore was bowled for 136 from 155 balls 23 fours and 4 sixes.
James Wharton 36 not out and Matthew Revis 22 not out had added 62 in 168 balls when bad light brought an early close to day 1.
