On another warm day at Weetwood on Saturday, the Yorkshire Academy hosted bottom of the table Acomb.

The Academy won the toss and elected to bat.

The openers got off to a steady start before Matthew Revis was dismissed at 41. James Wharton followed in the next over with the score on 43. The third wicket of Tom Loten fell at 58.

George Hill and Bilal Anjam put on a partnership of 67 for the fourth wicket from 100 balls before Anjam was out for 30 with the total at 125 for 4 in the 35th over. The next wicket fell two balls later. Hill was dismissed for 55 from 89 balls with 5 fours and a six to the first ball of the 41st over as the score moved onto 148. An increase in the scoring rate during the final ten overs despite losing two further wickets enabled the Academy to have a final total of 217 for 8 with Eddie Barnes 45 not out.

The wicket takers for Acomb were Tom Neal 4 for 62, Joe Dale 1 for 50, Jonny Rawsthorne 1 for 48 and Darcy O’Connor 2 for 44.

In the reply Acomb got off to a slow start against the opening attack and lost their first wicket in the 13th over with the score on 24. The other opener was dismissed in the 16th over as the total moved onto 28. Joe Dale joined John Askham and they put on 40 for the third wicket to leave the visitors struggling at 68 for 3 in the 27th over. The fourth wicket fell in the next over as the spinners took control. Only Joe Dale with 38 provided any resistance as the bottom of the table side collapsed from 87 for 4 to 108 all out in 38.1 overs. The Academy winning by 109 runs.

The damage was done by the Sullivan brothers. Harry’s excellent figures of 13 overs, 6 maidens 5 for 29 (at one stage his figures were 6 overs 5 maidens 1 for 1 which was a wide). Josh 9 overs 1 maiden 3 for 39. The other wickets were taken by Eddie Barnes 1 for 11 and Dominic Leech 1 for 15.

The Academy win by 109 runs has enabled them to move into fifth place in the table 12 points behind 4th place Sheriff Hutton Bridge.
