YORKSHIRE LEAGUE NORTH – Saturday 3 August 2019

Scorecard

After last week’s washout at Sessay the Academy were again on their travels when they visited North Marine Road on Saturday to play Scarborough.

The hosts won the toss and invited the Academy to bat first.

James Wharton was the first wicket to fall in only the second and Arjun Ramkumar joined Matthew Revis and the pair put on a second wicket partnership of 51 before Ramkumar was out for 22. Captain Tom Loten joined Revis and they took the total onto 95 before Revis fell for 51 from 83 balls with 5 fours. Wicket keeper Harry Duke joined Loten and the pair took the scorer to 154 in the 40th over before Duke was dismissed for 30. Loten was the next wicket to fall for 48 as the total moved to 192 for 5 in the 46th over. In the quest for quick runs two further wickets fell before the innings closed on a respectable 219 for 7 from 50 overs.

Wickets were shared between bowlers with Ben Elvidge 2 for 48 the best figures and Charlie Hopper, David Snowball, Linden Gray and James Pick one wicket each.

In the reply Scarborough got off to a bad start as captain Sam Drury was out for a duck to only the second ball of the innings. The other opener Darren Harland fell with the total on 22. An excellent partnership followed for the 3rd wicket between Oliver Stephenson and Ben Elvidge from 131 balls before Elvidge was out for 62 from 63 balls with 8 fours and a six. Tight bowling from the Academy spinners turned the match around as the hosts continued to be tied down which resulted in wickets falling regularly. Stephenson was the fifth batsmen dismissed for 57 from 99 balls with five fours. The home side collapsed from 133 for 2 to 177 all out as the Academy achieved an outright win.

The wicket takers were Harrison Quarmby 2 for 37, Harry Harding 13 overs 2 maidens 2 for 45, Harry Sullivan 12 overs 2 maidens 3 for 21 and Josh Sullivan 1.2 overs 2 for 8.

It was an excellent performance from the Academy to gain maximum points as at the halfway stage Scarborough needed 91 from 25 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Well done to the spinners who tied the home side down.

Points: Scarborough 0 Yorkshire Academy 10.
