Yorkshire Academy made the trip to St Georges Road Harrogate on another warm Saturday for cricket.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat. They were soon struggling at 25 for 2 with the dismissal of the opening pair. Captain Will Bates and wicket keeper Ross Sedgley took the score to 65 before Sedgeley was out. Bates was the wicket to fall for 36 at 104. Harry Stothard and Ollie Horberry shared a partnership of 66 before Stothard was dismissed for 45.
Horberry fell for 41 to the penultimate ball of the innings as Harrogate posted a respectable total of 194 for 6 from 50 overs.
Ed Booth 2 for 14 and Harry Sullivan 2 for 36 were the main contributors with the ball. Wicket keeper Alex Kaye took three catches and Will Luxton held two more.
In the reply openers Will Luxton and Matthew Weston shared an opening stand of 105 for 145 balls before Luxton was the first wicket to fall for 61 from 79 balls with 8 fours and a six. Weston was dismissed two overs later for 37. James Wharton and Harry Allinson put on 66 from 85 balls took the Academy to within sight of the target when Allinson was out for 28. Wharton finished on 37 not out as Yorkshire Academy achieved the victory and finished on 195 for 3 from 43.1 overs.
It was another encouraging performance for the youngsters and the ten points for the win took the side to 4th place in the table. It is very tight at the top with only nine points separating the top five positions. Castleford are 4 points ahead of Dunnington in second place, Woodhouse Grange two points behind with the Academy a point behind. Previous pacesetters dropped to 5th two points behind.
On Saturday Yorkshire Academy are at home to struggling Clifton Alliance and the other four teams in the top five are playing each other in the 10th round of matches.
