Yorkshire batter Sterre Kalis wants to add more standout scores to her tally as she bids to progress further from an already impressive summer.
Since the start of April, including friendlies and international appearances, Netherlands star Kalis has scored 1,022 runs. She topped that milestone with 52 in the White Rose county’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup defeat to Warwickshire at Edgbaston last Wednesday.
It is was her seventh score above 50.
“I’ve scored a lot of fifties but not many hundreds,” said the 26-year-old.
Kalis has scored one century this summer. It came for her country in a 20-over friendly against Lancashire’s seconds prior to the start of the T20 World Cup. Batting at three, she scored 100 not out off 56 balls in a three-wicket win.
“Centuries are what you aim for, especially in 50-over cricket, and they win matches,” she continued.
“I’m at the stage where I’m not happy with just 50. I want to kick on to get that really big score and help get the team over the line.

“It’s good to contribute and to score runs. It’s good for your confidence. But now’s the time to get hundreds and win us matches.”
Kalis was talking ahead of Yorkshire’s latest fixture, a Metro Bank One-Day Cup clash with Surrey at Ampleforth College tomorrow, starting at 10.30am.
Watching Kalis, there’s no doubt that her game has progressed this year, and she is now a talismanic presence in Yorkshire’s top order.
“I think I’ve played a lot more freely this year,” reasoned Kalis.
“I played a lot over winter, so I got that momentum going into the season. Then, obviously, I’ve been playing a lot of cricket this season as well.
“A lot of different formats as well, which I think makes a difference to how you develop your game.
“I didn’t play that much in The Hundred, but I spent time working on my game.”

Yorkshire sit eighth out of nine in the One-Day Cup table with three wins from 11. They are 11 points off the top three places for knockout qualification with 25 available to play for. Surrey are six points better off having won five of 11, including against Yorkshire at The Kia Oval at the start of the summer.
Both sides have significant work to do to make the knockouts.
Yorkshire were beaten at Warwickshire last Wednesday, while Surrey were beaten at home by Hampshire. Sandwiched in between, Surrey beat Warwickshire in Sunday’s Vitality County T20 Cup quarter-final on Sunday and are preparing for Finals Day at Emirates Old Trafford this coming Saturday.
In this format, they are captained by wicketkeeper-batter Kira Chathli and coached by Johann Myburgh. They have signed South African all-rounder Sune Luus as a late-season overseas player. She represented Yorkshire Diamonds in the Kia Super League days.
Kalis, who has never been to Ampleforth before, added: “There’s not much pressure on us, and we can play freely.
“That’s something we’ve tried to do all season, but we’ve needed to be better at certain points.”
