Hampshire at Scarborough. A repeat of last year’s semi-final is first up for Yorkshire tomorrow, starting at 11am. Fingers crossed, this time, the result is different.
The White Rose enjoyed an impressive 50-over campaign last summer which ended in disappointment. They won Group B with a swagger, winning seven of their eight games, before being beaten by 18 runs on DLS by Hampshire, who went on to lose to Worcestershire in the final.
In many ways, there are similarities to the Vitality Blast, which has just finished. Yorkshire impressed through the group stages before just being pipped at the post.
Liam Dawson starred with the bat for Hampshire last September, Craig Overton at Headingley last Wednesday.
“It’s a good test to start with,” said Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath, of the Hampshire game.
“I think we’ve got a tough group. As we know, everyone loses players, and there’ll be players coming in.
“I think it’s a competition where you’ve got to try and start well, and the games come thick and fast.”

The format remains unchanged.
The 18 counties are split into two groups, with the top three in each advancing to the knockouts.
The top team in each qualifies directly for a home semi-final on Sunday August 16. The second and third teams play off in effective quarter-finals on Friday August 14, the second-placed teams at home, for the right to advance to the semis.
The final will be played at Trent Bridge once again on Sunday September 20.
Yorkshire Squad vs Hampshire
Yorkshire have been placed in Group B alongside Derbyshire, Durham, Essex, Glamorgan, Hampshire, Middlesex, champions Worcestershire and Sussex.
Yorkshire have two home games at Scarborough and two at York added to away games at Neath, Hove, Lord’s and then Chelmsford.
“We were disappointed with the semi last year because, on form, we were probably the most consistent team,” reflected McGrath.

“We want to attack and make sure that we’re good this year as well.”
In terms of The Hundred, Yorkshire will be without Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Matthew Revis, Adil Rashid and Joe Root.
They will be without last season’s leading run-scorer and leading wicket-taker in Imam-ul-Haq and Matt Milnes, one who hasn’t been re-signed and the other who left for Kent last September.
Hampshire will be missing Sonny Baker, Scott Currie, Liam Dawson, Eddie Jack, Manny Lumsden, Ben Mayes, Chris Wood and James Vince.
They will be captained by opening batter Nick Gubbins, who was the leading run-scorer in the competition last summer with 707. He was 19 runs better off than the aforementioned Imam.
They have South African seamer Kyle Abbott as an overseas player and Australian batter Jake Lehmann available as a local because of his British passport.
Yorkshire will be heading into this competition on the back of last Wednesday’s remarkable defeat to Somerset in the T20 quarter-final at Headingley when Overton’s 79 not out off 30 balls helped his side recover from 82-8 after 14.3 overs chasing 162 to win with a ball to spare.

And McGrath said: “That mentality has got to be there for when we meet up and train on Monday.
“My job is to, I guess, reiterate what we’ve done really well in the white-ball this year and what we did well in the 50-overs last year and make sure we start well with that mentality, because we’ve seen throughout – when we have the right mentality and the belief – we’ve got the makings of a good team.
“We’re obviously not quite there yet, we’re not quite getting over the line. But I think everyone can see how we’ve played this summer. We’ve just got to keep building on that.
“You can either sulk about these things or we’ve got to use it as fuel. And we’ve got to learn from it.”
Yorkshire are chasing their first piece of limited overs silverware since 2002.
Hampshire, meanwhile, were beaten finalists at Saturday’s Blast Finals Day, by Northamptonshire.
Hampshire last won this 50-over competition in 2019.
