SCORECARD

Yorkshire’s D40 Quest side claimed a resounding first victory of the season at the second attempt yesterday as they beat Shropshire at Norton in Hales.

A fine all-round performance from Owen Morris was at the heart of a 54-run triumph in the D40 Quest North Group; 43 off 34 balls and three wickets with his spin.

Yorkshire, who elected to bat, were bowled out for 212 inside 30 overs, with Ed Denton top-scoring with an excellent 59 off 41 balls, including nine fours and a six. Matt Bailey took the new ball and claimed 5-40 from eight overs for the hosts.

In reply, Shropshire were in good order at 79-1.

White Rose captain Cameron Cooper struck early with his seamers before his opposite number Adam Marshall (45) and James Wojda (33) shared 70 for the second wicket.

But Morris removed them both en-route to figures of 3-21 from eight overs. He had Wojda stumped before bowling Marshall. He also trapped Callum Rigby as Shropshire slipped to 119-7.

They finished on 158-7, with Lewis Daniels also starring with 3-18 from eight overs, two bowled and one lbw.

Yorkshire bounced back from a defeat to Wales, and they face Cheshire at Higham next on June 8.

Yorkshire’s S9 side, meanwhile, clinched their second softball win of the season in their North Group competition, beating Lancashire by 39 runs defending their 30-over total of 188-1.

Hosts Lancashire responded with 149-6.
