SCORECARD

Captain Curtis Sugden posted a match-clinching fifty as Yorkshire fielded a Disability Under 21s side for the first time yesterday, beating Ordsall Bridon’s second XI in Retford.

Yorkshire won by seven wickets chasing a 40-over target of 226 after Owen Morris had claimed three wickets with spin to restrict the Bassetlaw League side to 225-6.

Increased participation levels have allowed the county’s management to field an Under 21s XI this summer, combining up and coming Deaf, Learning Disability and Physical Disability players.

Stanley Sleightholme, Oliver Wills, Jake Allman all struck once alongside Morris’s 3-33 from six overs. Simon Bingham and Jacob Marsh scored 56 and 54 for the hosts, but their efforts were not enough to prevent the White Rose from claiming victory.

In reply, Morris opened the batting and contributed 29 – he shared 71 for the first wicket with Jamie Dillon – before Joshua Sanders and wicketkeeper-batter Sugden came together with the score on 126-3.

Sanders finished with an unbeaten 45 and Sugden 53, the latter retiring not out late on with the game won to allow Jasper Spooner some time at the crease.

Yorkshire won with 8.4 overs to spare.

Owen Jervis, the county’s Disability teams manager, described this first outing for the Under 21s as a “really top milestone for Yorkshire Disability Cricket”.
