Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Moeen Ali, with the iconic all-rounder joining on a Blast-only contract for the 2026 season, with an option to extend for 2027.
The former England international has reversed his decision to retire from domestic cricket and will link up with the squad in May.
Ali, who won two IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings and captained Worcestershire to their first Blast triumph in 2018, also skippered Birmingham Phoenix to the final of the inaugural Hundred tournament.
Across domestic and franchise competitions around the world, Ali has become one of the most accomplished white ball cricketers of his generation.
In 420 career T20 matches to date, he has scored 7,792 runs and taken 271 wickets, including a career-best score of 121* in the Vitality Blast.
A key figure in England’s era-defining limited-overs sides, he won two World Cups and, in 92 IT20s, took 51 wickets and scored 1,229 runs, including seven 50s.
Speaking about the move, he said, “I’m delighted to be joining Yorkshire for the Blast. It’s a huge club with a proud history, but what really appeals to me is where the team is heading.
“There’s a lot of talent in the squad and the chance to work with Anthony and help push the group forward is exciting for me.
“I’ve always loved playing at Headingley — the wicket, the atmosphere and the supporters make it a special place. This feels like a fresh challenge and I’m arriving hungry for it. I want to bring my experience, enjoy my cricket and help Yorkshire compete.”
Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket, believes the signing underlines the Club’s aims and ambitions moving forward.
“Moeen is a world-class all-rounder whose influence extends well beyond his on-field ability. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our T20 side and build a team capable of challenging consistently in the Blast.
“He will bring presence to the dressing room, and his arrival will be positive for the wider club and for cricket in Yorkshire.
“His decision to join Yorkshire reflects the direction of travel at the Club and the environment we are building. We’re excited about what Moeen will bring, not just in performances, but in setting standards and helping drive the group forward.”
