By John Virr – 2nd X1 Scorer

Persistent rain delayed the start until 2.20pm – however with it being a friendly it was decided that no overs would be lost.

Lancashire won the toss and elected to bat first – Jones and Rocky Flintoff opened but Jones was caught at short fine leg by Rizwan Ishfaq off Will Rogers first ball (11-1). Hurst made 23 from 22 balls adding 42 for the second wicket with Flintoff but he was bowled by Rogers and Will Bennison bowled Flintoff with his first delivery (55-3) – Flintoff made 21 from 26.

Harry Singh made 18 from 11 balls but was caught behind by Harry Duke to give Bennison his second wicket. Ajay Khunti accounted for Tom Hartley having him caught at backward point by Rogers – he made 13 from 9 balls.

Only George Bell with 22 from 21 balls and George Harris 17 not out from 10 deliveries offered resistance and our hosts finished 139-8 from their 20 overs.

Our reply was off to a flyer as Owen Smith and Yash Vagadia added 51 in 30 balls before Smith was run out for 24 from 17 balls with 2 fours. Khunti joined Vagadia and they added 59 in in 52 balls, however both departed within the space of 4 balls. Khunti made a “run a ball” 28 with 2 fours and a six and Vagadia 48 from 38 with 6 fours – we were 112-3.

The target was reached with 20 deliveries to spare and without further loss as Harry Duke hit 28 from just 12 deliveries including 4 fours and a six.

Weather permitting Tuesday and Wednesday see a 2 day red ball game at the same venue.
