Day 1
Overnight rain delayed the start but thanks to the efforts of the groundstaff play could commence at 1.30pm with 74 overs left in the day. Glamorgan won the toss and elected to bowl.
Will Bennison and Finlay Bean opened the innings and had added 19 before the former was taken at first slip off O’Riordan having made 8 from 17 balls. Bean was joined by Harry Duke and they added 50 in 77 deliveries before Bean was caught in the gully for 30 from 56 balls with 4 fours. The next ball saw Yash Vagadia caught at the wicket and we were reduced to 69-3 and O’Riordan had 3-34.
Owen Smith survived the hat trick ball but was lbw for 8 to Edwards (80-4. Duke and Jawad Akhtar took the total to 121 before Duke was caught behind off Franco for 41 made from 75 balls with 7 fours. Akhtar was unbeaten on 37 from 46 balls at tea, Joe Thompson 8 not out and Yorkshire 136-5 with 37 overs left in the day.
After lunch Akhtar and Thompson continued their partnership passing 50 in 76 balls and then past a hundred in 141 balls – both players passed individual half centuries, Akhtar in 76 balls with 7 fours and Thompson in 58 balls with 9 fours. The partnership reached 129 as we earned our first batting bonus point.
As the evening session progressed they both continued towards their centuries and it was Akhtar who reached the landmark first from 126 balls with 16 fours and shortly before the close Thompson made his first 2nd XI hundred from 141 balls including 13 fours. The close was reached without further loss with a second batting bonus point at 308-5; an unbroken 6th wicket partnership 187.
Day 2
Day 2 started on time despite the weather forecast. Only 6 were added to the overnight total before Joe Thompson was caught at the wicket off Morris for 105 made from 146 deliveries with 14 fours. Dan Moriarty replaced him but was caught at cover for 2 and Subhan Ali also made 2 before being caught at mid- on. At this point Yorkshire were 338- 8.
Jawad Akhtar however was continuing from yesterday and surviving a couple of dropped catches he reached a personal milestone of 150 from 201 balls with 22 fours. Brad Sylvester had joined him and they posted a half century partnership from 78 balls as Sylvester passed his championship best (previously 20). At lunch Yorkshire had reached 432-8; Sylvester 40 not out from 58 balls with 4 fours and Akhtar, a tremendous 178 not out from 237 balls with 24 fours and a six – an unbeaten 9th wicket stand of 94 in 127 balls.
As they left the field for lunch a heavy downpour came, followed by more persistent rain and play was abandoned for the day at 2.50 pm.
Day 3
Further rain caused an early lunch, however play was delayed by more showers and finally got under way at 2.25 pm. Yorkshire had declared at 432-8.
Only 4 overs were possible before another rain delay, however in that 4 over spell Glamorgan were reduced to 7-3. Ben Coad had Nicholls lbw and Brad Sylvester dismissed Hope-Bell and Byram – bowled and caught at 3rd slip by Finlay Bean.
Horton and Blades faced a further 4 overs before more rain led to the tea interval – Glamorgan 23-3. After the interval they extended their partnership to 96 from 148 balls before Horton was bowled by Coad for 51 made from 75 balls with 8 fours.
The next over saw Charlie Richardson take his first wicket bowling Wallace, 102-5. Williams and Blades were unbeaten on 5 and 33 respectively as Glamorgan closed on 113-5.
Day 4
Heavy and persistent rain caused the last day to be abandoned with the game ending in a draw.
Yorkshire take 13 points and Glamorgan 10.
Next action is another Championship game starting at 11am on Monday 15th June at Weetwood against Essex.
