Day 4
Yorkshire claimed 11 points from their fifth Division One match of the season and consolidated their position in third place in Division One, moving six clear of fourth-placed Essex.
They had much the better of their third draw, added to two wins, and now sit 25 points behind leaders Somerset.
Day 3
The White Rose bowlers toiled on day three at Emerald Headingley, but were unfortunately unable to prevent Essex moving past the follow-on target. However, on a fairly good surface for batting, the efforts of the Yorkshire attack should be commended. Large periods of pressure were built up, leading to Essex closing on 252 for 9.
Day 2
Only 36.3 overs were bowled before 2.15pm on Day 2, and Yorkshire are in the driving seat at the halfway stage of this Specsavers County Championship match.
They advanced from 289-6 to 390 all out before lunch, including 91 not out off 132 balls for on-loan Bess, who hit 15 fours.
Essex then slipped to 18-1 from 6.5 overs of their reply immediately after lunch, losing Sir Alastair Cook caught at first slip by Tom Kohler-Cadmore off Ben Coad for just two. It was Kohler-Cadmore’s 25th catch in all cricket for Yorkshire this season.
Day 1
Adam Lyth and Tom Kohler-Cadmore narrowly missed out on centuries as Essex fought back strongly after tea to blunt Yorkshire’s early dominance on day one of the Specsavers County Championship clash at Emerald Headingley.
Third-wicket pair Lyth and Kohler-Cadmore shared 127 inside 39 overs from late morning to early evening as Yorkshire reached 224 for two, only to fall for 95 and 83 as the score slipped to 247 for five.
Essex struck four times in all after tea as Yorkshire closed on 289 for six from 96 overs.
