Live: Rothesay County Championship – Durham v Yorkshire Men, Day 3

Live coverage as Yorkshire Men visit Durham in the Rothesay County Championship at Headingley. New Zealand fast bowler Ben Sears is making his debut.

Close: Yorkshire 132-4, leading by 12

Yorkshire have faced 59 overs for their 132-4, with Lyth’s 53 the standout.

They have plenty of work to do, but will hope that the rain forecast for tomorrow afternoon arrives to help them out.

Jonny Bairstow 2 and George Hill 13.

Yorkshire 117-4, 51.1 overs

Dawid Malan bowled Matthew Potts, 37.

Yorkshire are still three runs behind as George Hill comes to the crease to join Jonny Bairstow, who is yet to score.

Yorkshire 114-3, 49.1 overs

Adam Lyth lbw Ben Raine, 53.

Yorkshire are still six runs behind after Lyth falls having been stuck on the crease.

Yorkshire 74-2, trailing by 46

Adam Lyth and Dawid Malan, 38 and 19, are working hard to clear this deficit in the evening sunshine.

We have 24 overs remaining in the day, and it looks like we’re going to see them all.

50 up for Yorkshire

It hasn’t been free flowing from Yorkshire by any stretch, with the pitch slow and Durham bowling straight and posting catchers in front of the wicket. But Yorkshire are 50-2 in the 29th over.

Adam Lyth has 32 and Dawid Malan 3.

We still have a little more than 30 overs remaining in the day. The deficit is 70.

Yorkshire 39-2, 21 overs

James Wharton caught George Drissell bowled Matthew Potts, 6.

Oh no. Wharton miscues a pull out to the sub fielder at deep square-leg. There was an immediate reaction of disappointment as he played the shot.

Dawid Malan in now alongside Adam Lyth, who has 24.

Yorkshire trail by 81.

Tea: Yorkshire 32-1, 18 overs, trail by 88 runs

Another positive session for Yorkshire, who have had much the better of this third day.

Adam Lyth has 20 and James Wharton 3.

We still have 41 overs remaining. With the sun out, it looks like we have a good chance of getting them all in.

Yorkshire 25-1, 12.1 overs

Bean is stuck on the crease and Durham have their breakthrough. Yorkshire’s deficit is 95.

Durham 427 all out, leading by 120

Brendan Doggett caught Jonny Bairstow bowled Jack White, 0.

White strikes for the third time in the innings, and Yorkshire have taken nine wickets today. Fantastic effort to limit Durham to a lead of below 150. White finishes with 3-76.

We have 59 overs remaining in the day.

Durham 422-9, 103.4 overs

Graham Clark caught George Hill bowled Jordan Thompson, 33.

Clark edges low down to first slip, and Yorkshire have their seventh wicket of the day.

All five Yorkshire seamers have now struck in this innings.

Paul Coughlin is out in the middle batting with an abdominal injury. He has joined Matthew Potts.

Not for long, though! Thompson has another in the 104th over. Potts is caught behind for a second-ball duck.

Durham lead by 115.

Durham 406-7, 101 overs

Ben Raine bowled Jack White, 10.

Off-stump sent cartwheeling and White has his second wicket.

Durham lead by 99, and Matthew Potts is in now alongside Graham Clark on 23.

The sun's out!!!

The sun has joined us for the first time this weekend.

It’s a lovely afternoon in the North East, though still pretty chilly.

Durham 386-6, leading by 79.

There is increasing talk of quite a bit of rain around tomorrow, so Durham may have to gamble a bit here and get bowling quickly.

Lunch: Durham 386-6, leading by 79

Yorkshire have enjoyed an excellent morning, claiming five wickets.

Ben Sears claimed one, Matthew Revis two and George Hill one.

Graham Clark has 13 for Durham and Ben Raine 4.

Durham 364-6, 92.4 overs

Will Rhodes lbw Ben Sears, 13.

What a brilliant comeback by Yorkshire this morning, and our New Zealand quick has his first White Rose wicket.

Durham lead by 57, and Ben Raine is in alongside Graham Clark.

Paul Coughlin has an abdominal injury, and we’re not sure whether he will bat.

Durham 362-5, 91.4 overs

George Hill

Emilio Gay bowled George Hill, 152.

Gay is squared up by Hill and sees his off-stump rocked back by a beauty which angled in and nipped away.

Durham’s lead is 55.

Gay 150

Emilio Gay has reached his 150 off 235 balls.

Durham are 360-4, leading by 53 runs runs. Ben Sears is into the attack now in place of Jack White.

Durham 340-4, 86.3 overs

Ollie Robinson lbw Jack White, 16.

Yorkshire’s new ball seamer strikes for the first time in this match, and Yorkshire are enjoying a really healthy morning, stymying Durham’s progress.

Will Rhodes is in now alongside Emilio Gay, who has 141.

New ball taken

George Hill and Jack White have returned to the attack.

Durham are 326-3, leading by 19.

Emilio Gay 131 and Ollie Robinson 12.

Remarkable IPL tale

Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit his first ball for six having become the youngest player to ever feature in the Indian Premier League yesterday.

Suryavanshi was playing for Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants.

Amazingly, the right-hander had made his first-class debut in India at the age of 12.

New ball delayed

Yorkshire have delayed taking the second new ball following their recent success.

Dom Bess and Matthew Revis continue.

Durham lead by four runs at 311-3 after 81 overs.

Durham 303-3, 77.3 overs

Colin Ackermann caught Jonny Bairstow bowled Matthew Revis, 0.

Revis strikes for the second time in as many overs.

Durham trail by four runs.

Ollie Robinson in alongside Emilio Gay, who has 120.

Durham 301-2, 75.3 overs

Matthew Revis

Alex Lees caught Ben Sears bowled Matthew Revis, 172.

Another top-edge, and it’s been taken well by Sears running in and diving forwards from long-leg. Jonny Bairstow set off after it and was initially interested, but the New Zealand fast bowler took on the responsibility and claimed a smart catch.

Record partnership...

The partnership between Alex Lees and Emilio Gay, who have 172 and 118 respectively, is now Durham’s highest ever for the second wicket in their first-class history.

It stands at 279 and beats Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick, who posted 274 here against Middlesex in 2014.

Matthew Revis is into the attack and has just been pulled for six by Lees off a top edge, which sails over long-leg’s head.

New ball on the horizon

Yorkshire have a new ball available in a little more than eight overs. Durham are 287-1 in the 72nd, with Alex Lees and Emilio Gay having shared 265 and counting.

It was interesting to hear Mick Lewis, our bowling coach, talk last night about the ball currently in use going soft quickly.

Lees 150

Alex Lees has reached his 150 off 207 balls, with Durham moving to 269-1 during the early stages of the day.

Jordan Thompson and Dom Bess have taken up the attack for Yorkshire.

Thompson takes on immediate bowling duties

Play has started here at the Banks Homes Riverside.

Durham are 265-1 in the day’s opening over – the 64th, which was incomplete from last night. Jordan Thompson is bowling. After this, we’ll have 104 overs.

Alex Lees 148 and Emilio Gay 106.

Good morning from the Banks Homes Riverside

It’s another overcast morning in the North East, and chilly once again too.

We will start on time at 11am, though you suspect it will be another day of bad light issues later on.

We have already lost 48 overs across the first two days, though we will try and regain eight of them later today. It might be wishful thinking, but 104 overs will be scheduled.

Yorkshire are in desperate need of early wickets, with Durham 264-1 in reply to our first-innings 307.

Alex Lees and Emilio Gay will resume on 148 and 105 aiming to get into the lead and build quickly. With the light issues we’ve had – and there’s been talk of some rain tomorrow – they certainly can’t afford to hang around this morning.

That may well play into Yorkshire’s hands.

The new ball is just under 17 overs away.

Yorkshire’s players are just about to start their morning warm-ups.

Happy Easter to all as well.
