Yorkshire wicketkeeper Jonny Tattersall said

“To get a win and a quarter-final is great for the lads. It’s great to contribute having played a bit of second-team cricket and then getting the chance to come in and keep when I’ve only been doing it a couple of months.

“I’ve really enjoyed it.

“That just tops it off for me, and hopefully there’s more to come.

“We were always under control with the run-rate. It wasn’t too out of control. Myself and Gary (Ballance) were keen to keep touching it around and getting the ones and twos. We knew that if we got the odd boundary away, the rate would come down.

“We weren’t panicking, and we spoke in the dressing room afterwards. All the lads on the balcony were pretty comfortable as well.

“Momentum has been good (over the last fortnight). Four wins out of four has been good. Hopefully we can take that into Essex and keep that winning streak going.”

Jonny Tatt brilliant with 52 not out

8.48pm Yorkshire closing in on the win now. They need 26 more from 29 balls with five wickets left. Ballance and Tattersall superb. 216-5.

8.10pm Yorkshire 160-5 after 36 overs needing 82 more. Ballance is going nicely on 35 and Tattersall busy for 11. 242 target.

7.57pm Willey’s gone. He’s been caught at long-on off Zaib’s left-arm spin for 71. 134-5 in the 33rd over.

7.48pm Yorkshire are 125-4 after 30 overs, needing 117 more to win. I think we can discount the home eliminator match next week against Kent (need to chase this is 41 overs). It’s looking like away at Essex with a win.

7.12pm Joe Root has been caught behind trying to reverse sweep at Rob Keogh’s off-spin, 18. Yorkshire 89-3 after 19 overs.

7.02pm David Willey reaches 50 off 42 balls as Yorkshire move to 85-2 in the 17th over. Remember, they need to chase 242 down around 41-over mark for home semi-final eliminator.

6.25pm Yorkshire 35-2 in the ninth over.

6.08pm Yorkshire lose their first wicket, Adam Lyth caught behind off Rory Kleinveldt for nine. The hosts are 14-1 after four. Oh no, it’s two down. Hutton gets Kohler-Cadmore caught behind down leg at the start of the fifth. 14-2.

5.33pm Right. Notts have absolutely hammered Derbyshire and now have a better net run-rate than Yorkshire, which means they need to win around the 41st over to secure a home semi-final eliminator.

Mid-innings report

Yorkshire will need 242 to beat Northamptonshire at Emerald Headingley and advance to the knockout stages of the Royal London one-day Cup.

If the Vikings win a fourth North Group game in a row, they will advance beyond the group stages for the fifth year running and, most likely, finish second and host Kent here in a semi-final eliminator match next Thursday.

But Northants, who elected to bat, recovered from 101-6 to 241 all out as debutant Charlie Thurston top-scored with an eye-catching 53 and tail-enders Graeme White and Brett Hutton chipped in with 41 not out and 30. Earlier, Alex Wakely hit 42.

David Willey finished with 3-24 from 9.5 overs against his former county, while Matthew Fisher, Tim Bresnan and Adil Rashid all claimed two apiece.

4.52pm Ninth wicket goes down and Northants are 228-9 in the 45th over. Brett Hutton clipped Patterson to Rashid at deep square-leg for 30.

4.45pm Some significant late frustration for Yorkshire. Northants have recovered from 101-6 to 225-8 after 43 overs with Graeme White on 36 and Brett Hutton 29.

4.18pm Northants are enjoying their best period of the match so far. Graeme White and Charlie Thurston have shared 41 in attacking fashion. They are 184-7 after 37 overs.

3.57pm Kleinveldt has gone Northants were counter-attacking, but Adil Rashid (2-59 from 10) final ball sees Kleinveldt miscue to mid-off for 29. 143-7 after 31 overs.

3.37pm Things going ideally for Yorkshire as Adil Rashid gets Saif Zaib caught at mid-on following a slog swept six. 101-6 in the 25th over.

3.23pm Northants are in real bother now at 83-5 in the 22nd. Their captain Alex Wakely has just chipped Tim Bresnan to Matt Fisher at mid-wicket to fall for 42. Much depended on him.

3.03pm Bresnan’s second ball does the trick

2.40pm We’re through 10 overs. Northants on the back foot at 33-3.

2.30pm Yorkshire have a third wicket. David Willey has Ricardo Vasconcelos caught at first slip by Tom Kohler-Cadmore for 10. Northants 27-3 in the eighth now.

2.14pm Excellent start for Yorkshire as Matthew Fisher gets Adam Rossington caught at mid-on following a miscued pull. 9-2 in the fourth over.

2.11pm David Willey strikes to get rid of Ben Duckett for two. His good run of form continues. 5-1 in the third.

2.02pm Maiden over for David Willey to start things off.

1.43pm @YorkshireCCC: Lyth, Kohler-Cadmore, Willey, Root, Pujara, Ballance, Tattersall w, Rashid, Bresnan, Fisher, Patterson c.

@NorthantsCCC: Vasconcelos, Thurston, Duckett, Wakely c, Keogh, Rossington w, Kleinveldt, Zaib, White, Hutton, Cotton.

1.38pm Northants have won the toss and will bat first.

Good afternoon from Emerald Headingley, where we are greeted by hazy sunshine.

Yorkshire go into their final North Group game against Northants knowing that a win will see them through to the knockout stages, most likely in second place in the group and thus a home semi-final eliminator match against Kent next Thursday.

The Vikings have won their last three matches against Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Lancashire to put them in pole position. But a defeat today would eliminate them.

There are ways they could still top the group or still qualify without winning, but they rely on ties or No Results here or in other matches.

Northants can’t qualify, but they have named the likes of Ben Duckett, Alex Wakely, Adam Rossington, Rory Kleinveldt and Ben Sanderson in their squad, despite leaving others at home.

We start at 2pm.

Elsewhere, other matches of interest to Yorkshire see the top two sides Warwickshire and Worcestershire face off at Edgbaston and Nottinghamshire in fourth host Derbyshire in fifth at Trent Bridge.

The A660 Otley Road is to be closed in both directions near Shire Oak Road for the whole of today including this evening’s peak period.

The diversion route for vehicles in both directions will be via Victoria Road, Cardigan Road and North Lane.

It is being reported that the sinkhole has been caused by a major water pipe that has burst underground. The Council, Police and the Water Board are all said to be at the scene.

We anticipate that this will have a major impact on journeys to and from the north of the city and the city centre.
