Yorkshire captain Steve Patterson said

“I didn’t realise I’d taken 450 to be honest.?“It’s just nice after no wickets at Scarborough and Hampshire, personally, to contribute again.
“I thought we did a decent job with the ball. We certainly didn’t bowl as well as we did in the last couple of weeks discipline wise. But we bowled enough wicket-taking deliveries.
“We were happy with that score, but we haven’t played well enough with the bat. We are a bit behind where we want to be.
“Obviously, we’d like as many runs as we can get. But we are 60 behind. If we can get within 25 or 30, it makes it almost a one-innings game.
“We have Gary there, who is one of the best players in the country. If we can keep him there for an hour tomorrow, it gives us a chance to creep up to them.”

5.33pm We’re off for the light, with Yorkshire 95-8 with 12.2 overs remaining. 60 behind.

The Diamonds, meanwhile, have won at Durham to qualify for the RHF Trophy knockouts.

5.21pm Fifty for Ballance, off 93 balls with six fours. He’s holding firm as wickets fall around him. Yorkshire 93-7 in the 37th over.

Oh hang on, Fisher has been caught at first slip off Miles. 93-8.

5.14pm WICKET Thompson falls to Miles, caught at wide mid-on on the pull, for 5. Yorkshire are 91-7 in the 35th over. The deficit is 64. Fisher joins Ballance, who has 48. A little more than 16 overs remaining in the day.

4.52pm WICKET Another one. Norwell gets Duke lbw. 76-6. Yorkshire are in a bit of bother here, 79 behind.

4.40pm WICKET Bess bowled driving at Norwell, 1. Yorkshire are 64-5. Duke joins Ballance at the crease. The latter has 34. We’re playing under the lights at present.

4.25pm WICKET Brook lbw by Woakes for 15. Yorkshire are 63-4 in the 25th.

4.01pm We’re back up and running after tea, with Ballance facing Norwell. Yorkshire 55-3, trailing by 100.

Up at Durham, Thunder are 90-2 in the 26th over chasing 295.

Tea Report Yorkshire bowled Warwickshire out for 155 before reaching tea at 55-3 on day one of the penultimate round LV= Insurance County Championship match at Emerald Headingley.

Ben Coad and Steve Patterson finished with four wickets apiece as Warwickshire advanced from 103-7 at lunch, Michael Burgess playing a lone hand with 66.

Patterson claimed his 450th first-class wicket when he had Jacob Bethell caught behind by Harry Duke.

The White Rose then fell to 27-3 after nine overs in reply, including two wickets for England seamer Chris Woakes with the new ball.

He had George Hill trapped lbw for four and forced international team-mate Dawid Malan caught at point on the cut for nine.

Thankfully, Gary Ballance has led the recovery with a fluent 29 not out, aided by Harry Brook’s 12.

Yorkshire are 100 behind with 32 overs remaining in a day which has already seen 13 wickets fall.

3.44pm – Tea Yorkshire reach 55-3 from 19 overs in their response to Warwickshire 155. Ballance 29 and Brook 12. Earlier, Patterson and Coad finished with four wickets apiece.

3.30pm Three overs until tea. Yorkshire 40-3. Ballance 19 and Brook 7.

2.38pm WICKET Lyth lbw Norwell, 1 – Yorkshire are 5-2.

2.31pm The Diamonds have finished on 294-6. Heath 78 and Langston 58, both unbeaten. Langston’s came off just 30 balls. A win could qualify the Diamonds for the knockout stages.

2.15pm WICKET Burgess pulls Coad to deep mid-wicket (Bess) for 66. Warwickshire 155 all out inside 43 overs. Coad and Patterson finish with four wickets apiece. Superb.

2.01pm Burgess has reached his fifty off 77 balls with 7×4s. The wicketkeeper batsman has played nicely. 135-9.

1.54pm WICKET Coad gets Miles caught behind by Duke, diving low to his right – one-handed. Excellent catch. Warwickshire 133-9 in the 39th. Burgess on 49, and you would expect him to start playing a few shots if Norwell survives the last three balls of the over.

1.02pm The Diamonds are 181-5 after 37 overs, but they are off for rain at Durham.

Lunch Report Yorkshire have enjoyed a superb opening morning with the ball at Emerald Headingley, restricting Warwickshire to 103-7 in the 28th over.

This penultimate round clash in the LV= Insurance County Championship’s Division One is one both sides realistically have to win to keep their hopes alive of finishing top of the table and winning the title.

And three wickets for Steve Patterson has helped put them on course to achieve it.

Yorkshire started the game in joint second with Hampshire on 38.5 points, 10.5 behind leaders Nottinghamshire. Warwickshire are fourth on 36 points.

Hampshire and Notts are playing each other at the Ageas Bowl.

Yorkshire won an important toss and took advantage, with captain Patterson claiming 3-15 from six overs to date, including England Test all-rounder Chris Woakes lbw for 9.

The Bears lost their first three wickets with the score on 24.

The first was Dom Sibley lbw for 11 playing around his front pad against Matthew Fisher in the sixth over – the opener having already been offered a life on six when Harry Duke couldn’t cling on to a low catch diving to his right off Ben Coad.

But Coad found success with two wickets in two balls in the seventh over – Will Rhodes caught behind and Sam Hain caught at point off the shoulder of the bat for a golden duck.

Later, Chris Benjamin shouldered arms at Patterson and lost his off stump – 48-4 in the 14th – before Matt Lamb was bowled through the gate in the 16th,

And when Woakes was lbw stuck on the crease in the 20th over, Warwickshire were 71-6.

Then, two balls into the morning’s final over, George Hill trapped Tim Bresnan lbw with one which kept low.

?Michael Burgess will begin the afternoon on 37.

Dawid Malan has returned to Yorkshire’s team following Test duty, in place of Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Coad has returned to the team in place of David Willey following last week’s two-day win over Somerset at Scarborough.

12.32pm – Lunch WICKET Bresnan trapped lbw by Hill, 4. Warwickshire are 103-7 in the 28th. Burgess 37 not out. Three wickets for Patterson, two for Coad, one apiece for Fisher and Hill. Fabulous morning for Yorkshire.

11.53am The Diamonds are 102-3 in the 25th over against Thunder. Kalis 48 not out.

11.36am WICKET The skipper does it again. Patterson bowls Lamb, through the gate, for 16. 55-5. Woakes in for Warwickshire.
