“It’s disappointing. I feel we got into positions of strength in the game. We’ve just talked in the dressing room about realising those positions and being more ruthless – 93-1 on the first morning having been put in in bowler-friendly conditions. We lost five or six wickets in no time and suddenly you’re trying to scrape your way to 200.
“If you have your time again, you have to get to 120, 130 or 150-1 and get over 300.
“The batting in the second innings, we felt like we lost a wicket every time we got some momentum.
“I thought 220 was very competitive. I thought we bowled nicely with the new ball even though we didn’t take wickets. That was key. You have to give Warwickshire credit, the two lads up front played well and set a foundation.”

4.29pm Warwickshire have strengthened their position in the opening 40 minutes of the evening and now need only 52 to win. They are 165-1, with Sibley 73 and Yates 9. James Logan searching for something special as I type.
Tea Yorkshire need something special after tea on day four to avoid a first Specsavers County Championship defeat of the season as Warwickshire head for victory at York.
Will Rhodes hit 26 off an over from former team-mate Jack Leaning to break the back of a chase of 217 in 76 overs. Rhodes and Dom Sibley helped the Bears to tea at 133-1 from 40 overs.
The pair’s 132 stand inside 37 overs was the county’s highest opening partnership of the summer, beating 58 in the first innings of last month’s draw against Surrey at Edgbaston.
Watchful either side of lunch as they blunted the new ball, Rhodes then took the attack to the county he left for Edgbaston ahead of the 2018 campaign.
He smashed two fours and three leg-side sixes off Leaning’s off-spin in the 31st over, moving to 50 off 92 balls in the process. Prior to that over, they were 80-0 and scored 40 off the next three.
Sibley was happy to support his left-handed partner, backing up his 67 in the first innings with an unbeaten 50, reached off 122 balls in the over before tea.
David Willey bowled Rhodes shortly before tea, a wicket Yorkshire hope will be the first of many.
A Warwickshire win would be their second in their last three matches after three defeats to start the campaign. Yorkshire are so far unbeaten in six games.

Yorkshire v Warwickshire (York, day 4)
Warwickshire, chasing a final day target of 217 in 76 overs, have started well and are 88 for 0 in the 31st over.
Earlier, Yorkshire’s second innings ended on 211 with two of their last three wickets going to skipper Jeetan Patel. The ex-New Zealand off-spinner bowled James Logan and had Jack Leaning lbw slog sweeping for 65, the first of those being his 700th wicket in all formats for Warwickshire.
Former Yorkshire seamer Oliver Hannon-Dalby, 30 today, finished with career best figures of 9 for 137 after taking four wickets in the second innings.
Kent v Nottinghamshire (Tunbridge Wells, day 4)
Nottinghamshire are struggling to avoid a heavy defeat. After Joe Denly had finished on 161 not out, Notts were set 406 in 85 overs but lost three wickets in Harry Podmore’s new-ball burst. They are 83 for 7 with 42 overs left to survive and Podmore has taken four wickets.
Division Two
Leicestershire v Gloucestershire (Leicester, day 4)
Gloucestershire were eventually bowled out for 571 to establish a lead of 84. Ryan Higgins, 196 not out, was dismissed for a career-best 199. In their second innings, Leicestershire are 84 for 0 and the game is almost certainly going to end in a draw.
Worcestershire v Sussex (Kidderminster, day 3)
Worcestershire are in a good position to beat one of their promotion rivals. Half-centuries from Wayne Parnell and Joe Leach enabled them to take a first-innings lead of 128 despite another good bowling performance by Ollie Robinson, who took 5 for 84. Sussex are 33 for 3 in their second innings and still trail by 95 runs.
3.01pm Rhodes reaches 50 off 92 balls and then hits three sixes off Leaning in the 31st over, which goes for 26. 106-0 after 31.
2.45pm Rhodes and Sibley, who have 39 and 37, have shared Warwickshire’s highest opening stand of the season so far at 70-0. They need 147 more. Yorkshire need a wicket to spark something.
2.20pm Warwickshire move to 56-0 chasing 217, and Yorkshire have work to do.
Meanwhile, quite an amazing scorecard from a women’s T20I clash between Uganda women and Mali women in Rwanda today, Uganda made 314-2 from their 20 overs, an innings including only one six, before Mali fell just short at 10 all out.
Mali had been bowled out for 6 on Tuesday against Rwanda. Improvement, hey.
2pm Joe Root is preparing for tomorrow’s World Cup clash against Sri Lanka at Emerald Headingley, but he’s still keeping one eye on proceedings here at York.
He has been talking to the Yorkshire media team earlier today about the White Rose’s start to the season and their chances in this game and for the rest of 2019.
“To get off to the start we did before the one-day cricket kicked off was quite important.
“We played some very good cricket throughout that period and have carried that forward in the last few games.
“It’s a big day for us up at York.
“I think it’s great that cricket’s gone back to playing at club grounds, even though it has been forced to with this tournament (World Cup) and probably the Hundred next year.
“But it looks like it’s been a great atmosphere and everyone has put some really hard work in at York Cricket Club. I see there’s been 8-9,000 fans over the four days, which is brilliant.
“I’ve watched the footage and the highlights, and the guys have worked very hard. It looks like a great game of cricket. On a day four wicket, I fancy our chances of bowling Warwickshire out. Fingers crossed, the boys can get it done.
“I think we’ve made the transition quite quickly from being a young and inexperienced side to be in a position where if we win this game, we’ll be right in contention going into the latter half of the season.
“If we can keep working hard and getting those first-innings runs a little bit more to set the game up, we’ll be right up there. I’m very hopeful we can have a really strong second half to the season and push for that title.”

Lunch Yorkshire are defending a target of 217 against Warwickshire on day four at York, and the visitors have reached lunch at 20-0 from eleven overs.
The White Rose, bowled out for 211 in their second innings, were handed 76 overs to bowl the Bears out as they pursue a third Specsavers County Championship win of the season. Jack Leaning posted an excellent 65 on his home ground.
Yorkshire lost three morning wickets to wrap up their second innings, two going to Jeetan Patel, his 700th and 701st wickets in all formats for Warwickshire.

Earlier, Oliver Hannon-Dalby, celebrating his 30th birthday today, forced Steve Patterson to chop on for his fourth wicket of the innings and his ninth in the match. His match figures of 9-137 represent a career best return.
Yorkshire should not be disappointed with their tight start with the ball to Warwickshire’s chase given wickets have fallen in clusters throughout this fixture.

12.41pm Half appeal for a catch at second slip by Lyth off Patterson. Rhodes (5) nicked it but umpire Millns at square-leg immediately ruled it had not carried. 11-0 in the sixth (217 target).
12,28pm Warwickshire are 5-0 in the fourth over of their chase. It promises to be a gripper. Rhodes has four of them and is currently facing Patterson. A couple of wickets before lunch would be lovely.

Good morning from York, where it is a bright start to day four. What a fabulous final day’s cricket we have in prospect at Clifton Park.
Yorkshire will begin the day on 178-7 in their second innings, leading by 183 with Jack Leaning on 47 and Steve Patterson nine.
Both sides are confident, and both think Warwickshire are just ahead at this point.
