3.18pm – WICKET! Coles trapped lbw by Thompson, 5. Sussex are 85-4 in the 36th over. Fireworks in the distance greeted that wicket, too.

2.53pm – WICKET! Hughes caught at cover by Tattersall at the second attempt off Coad, 53, two balls after reaching his fifty. Sussex are 75-3 in the 30th over. Coles in now for the visitors.

2.41pm – Root 34 and Brook 16 are in for England at the Old Trafford Test against Sri Lanka. On day two, they are 105-3 replying to a first-innings 236. Root has a pretty good career record against Sri Lanka.

12.48pm – Good news. We will be restarting at 1.10pm, with 11 overs lost from the day’s allocation. So, at 12-1 after four overs, we have 81 overs remaining in the day.

12.16pm – The rain has passed through and the covers are coming off.

12pm – Lunch will be taken here at 12.30pm – the rain continues to fall.

11.32am – The rain has passed through for now, but it also seems as if the ground-staff are a bit wary about another dollop hitting us.

And just as I finish that sentence, it arrives. It’s fairly heavy too.

11.17am – We’re off for rain with Sussex at 12-1 after four overs. Hughes 7, Clark 5.

11.04am – WICKET! Haines trapped lbw by Coad, 0. It’s 5-1 after one over. Excellent. Clark in now. Thompson shares the new ball.

11.02am – We’re underway here at Scarborough. Coad is bowling to Australian opener Hughes, who drove the first ball of the match through the covers for four. Sussex 5-0 in the first.

10.34am – Jonny Tattersall has won the toss and Yorkshire will be bowling first here.

Our team is as follows: Lyth, Bean, Wharton, Luxton, Bairstow w, Tattersall c, Hill, Thompson, Revis, Coad, Moriarty.

Sussex: Hughes, Haines, Clark, Alsop, Coles, Simpson c&w, Hudson-Prentice, Carson, Robinson, Unadkat, Hunt.

10am – The cut strip for this fixture is on the Popular Bank side of the ground this week, so the boundary is a reasonably short one on that side of the ground.

9.45am – Good morning from North Marine Road, where there has been some rain around in the last half hour or so but not enough to prevent the players from warming up. There’s also a quite a strong wind.

But the sun is out at the moment, so fingers crossed we can still start on time at 11am for our 10th round clash with Division Two leaders Sussex. The gap between the two sides is 27 points with five games remaining. More importantly for third-placed Yorkshire, they are four points behind second-placed Middlesex.

Middlesex play Northamptonshire today, so hopefully Dom Leech can do us a favour having gone on loan for a fortnight ahead of a three-year deal from next season. That move has just been announced in the last 10 minutes.

Yorkshire beat Derbyshire at Chesterfield last time out – by an innings – a fixture which took place seven weeks ago. In fact, the hosts are searching for a third win on the bounce having previously beaten Gloucestershire here by an innings.

Jonny Bairstow makes his first appearance of the season for Yorkshire and his first at Scarborough since 2015, when he scored 139 and 74 in victory over Worcestershire.

Sussex have seamers Ollie Robinson and Jaydev Unadkat available for the biggest Festival taking place in Yorkshire this weekend.
