Jonny Tattersall said
“It was nice to get some runs, and hopefully we can get that extra one for another point in the morning.
“I batted with Tim Bresnan at the end of the 50-over game against Northants a couple of weeks ago, and he helped see that game home. I’ve batted with him before, but it was nice to get that 100 partnership because it was crucial. It’s been a good day.
“It’s difficult to say (who is ahead). Historically, Scarborough has always been a quick scoring ground. But there’s a little bit in that wicket. I was chatting to Tim, and we thought they maybe bowled a bit wide at us.
“We think there’s enough in the pitch. Hopefully, when we get a chance to bowl tomorrow, we put the ball in the right areas and it’s an above par score.
“Morne’s got that bit of extra bounce, which did for me. But it was nice to get some runs against a good attack.”
6.30pm Close. Hugely entertaining day. Yorkshire recover from 166-6 to reach 299-8 from 96. 19 off Morkel’s last over of the day. Can’t wait for tomorrow.
6.14pm Tattersall gone! Caught at second slip for 70 off Morkel. 276-8 in the 94th.
6.01pm Bresnan gone! Bowled by Clarke for 48 after a stand of 100 with Tattersall. Superb knock. 266-7.
5.31pm Excellent evening session for Yorkshire as they move to 232-6 in the 84th over. Jonny Tattersall reaches 50 off 126 balls with 7×4s, including three in a row off Dernbach.
4.57pm Yorkshire reach 200-6 in the 75th over. Hang on, make that 204-6. Bresnan edges Patel and is dropped by Pope behind and he palms it for four.
4.26pm Early stages of the evening and Morne Morkel is bowling around the wicket and into the body of Tim Bresnan with a leg slip. Yorkshire 189-6.
Tea Report
Yorkshire have reached tea on day one of their Specsavers County Championship match against Surrey at Scarborough at 185-6 from 64 overs.
The White Rose lost four wickets in the session as Che Pujara (23), Harry Brook (nought), Gary Ballance for 54 and Jack Leaning (21) fell.
Nineteen-year-old off-spinner Amar Virdi struck twice in three balls to get Pujara caught at short-leg and Brook lbw playing back to one that skidded on in the 37th over, leaving Yorkshire at 107-4.
Ballance has so far been Yorkshire’s top-scorer, and he reached 50 with a pulled six over mid-wicket off Virdi with his 60th delivery.
Unfortunately, however, he offered no shot to Rikki Clarke in the 48th over and was bowled as the score fell to 139-5.
In the 60th over, Leaning then miscued a pull at Jade Dernbach to deep mid-wicket with another 27 added to the total. But Jonny Tattersall is unbeaten on 25 with Tim Bresnan on eleven.
3.40pm Jack Leaning pulls Jade Dernbach to deep mid-wicket, where Will Jacks takes a low catch. He’s fallen for 21. 166-6 in the 59th over.
Not a bad day for cricket at Scarborough.

Lunch Report
Yorkshire have reached lunch at 76-2 from 28 overs on day one of their Specsavers County Championship match against Division One leaders Surrey at Scarborough.
A hugely competitive morning saw Yorkshire, who won the toss, lose openers Alex Lees for nought and Adam Lyth for 42 to new ball duo Jade Dernbach and Morne Morkel.
Lyth scored all of Yorkshire’s first 27 runs before a leg bye broke the sequence, while Che Pujara took 42 balls and 70 minutes to get off the mark and is still there on 19.
Lees was caught and bowled off inside-edge and pad by Dernbach in the second over before Lyth uppishly drove Morkel to gully as Yorkshire slipped to 51-2 in the 20th.
Gary Ballance will begin the afternoon alongside Pujara on 10.
12.55pm Yorkshire 75-2 in the 27th over. Che Pujara has 18 of them and Gary Ballance 10. Jade Dernbach has just had a huge appeal for leg before against Pujara, leaving the ball, turned down and couldn’t believe it.
12.26pm Lyth gone! He’s been caught by de Bruyn in the gully off Morkel for 42. Yorkshire are 51-2 in the 20th.
12.21pm Che Pujara is off the mark after 42 balls and 70 mins at the crease. He has driven Ryan Patel through the covers for four. 49-1 after 19.
12.08pm Che Pujara has been batting for an hour and is yet to get off the mark. He has faced 36 balls. Proper dig in. 40-1 after 16 overs, with Adam Lyth on 37.
