“It’s been a difficult few weeks if we’re being honest. Since the first day at Taunton last week, we haven’t performed well.
“The first 10 overs of this game, yes, we had them 39 for five. Since then, if we’re being honest, we’ve all got to take responsibility for our performance.
“It’s been well, well below par.
“I’ve always prided myself, my sides and the way Yorkshire sides play cricket on grit and determination, those sorts of characteristics. We’ve shown none of those over the last few weeks. We’ve rolled over.
“That’s what disappoints me and hurts me the most.
“You’re thinking, ‘Did they declare a bit late there?’. In hindsight, they probably timed it to perfection.
“We thought if we could get through maybe one down tonight, we’d have a chance of a Trent Bridge last day scenario (first game of the season draw). But they bowled well.
“You’ve got to be up to the task. There’s no massive demons in the pitch. It’s a new ball pitch, and they put the ball in good areas. But we weren’t up to the task. We played at balls we didn’t need to play at, we got stuck on the crease. Those six wickets tonight have really hurt.”

Division One
Essex v Surrey (Chelmsford)
Essex are on course to win and go back to the top of the table ahead of game at Taunton against Somerset next week.
Skipper Ryan ten Doeschate made 103 this morning before they were bowled out for 395, a lead of 221. Surrey are 110 for 5 in their second innings, still 111 behind, with off-spinner Simon Harmer taking all five wickets so far. He now has 76 for the season – with power to add. It is his ninth five-wicket haul of the season.
Hampshire v Somerset (Ageas Bowl)
The title race seems certain to go to the final round with leaders Somerset struggling to chase a target of 281 on 141 for 8. Kyle Abbott, who took nine wickets in the first innings, has picked up seven more and currently has remarkable match figures of 16 for 82, the best of his career. Hampshire were bowled out for 226 after Abbott helped James Vince, who made 142, add 119 for the ninth wicket.
Nottinghamshire v Warwickshire (Trent Bridge)
England hopeful Dominic Sibley carried his bat for 215 not out as Warwickshire were bowled out for 488.
It was the third double-hundred of his career. Sibley, who has been on the field for the entirety of the match, reached his 200 from 406 balls, having hit 28 fours and is the first Warwickshire batsman to carry his bat against Notts since Michael Powell 21 years ago. Steven Mullaney picked up 4-48 for the home side.
Yorkshire v Kent (Emerald Headingley)
Kent captain Sam Billings became the first man to score two hundreds in the same Championship match at Headingley, with Kent strengthening their grip over Yorkshire on day three.
Billings hit 138 in the first innings and 99 not out in the second as Kent, leading by 213 on first innings, reached tea at 276 for 5 from 67 overs, a lead of 489.
He shared 124 in 29 overs for the fourth wicket either side of lunch with Ollie Robinson, whose 97 saw him fall short of a second century against Yorkshire this season.
Billings posted his second ton shortly after tea as Yorkshire were set 551 to win.
Division Two
Derbyshire v Sussex (Derby)
Sussex’s promotion challenge is slipping away as they reached 94 for 4 chasing 345 to beat Derbyshire to keep their hopes alive. Earlier, Ollie Robinson took 5 for 88 as Derbyshire’s second innings ended on 437 with eight wickets falling in 24 overs this morning. Anuj Dal has taken three of the Sussex second-innings wickets to fall.
Glamorgan v Leicestershire (SWALEC Stadium)
Promotion hopefuls Glamorgan, who did not enforce the follow-on despite gaining a first innings lead of 172, had extended that lead to 343 on 171 for 4 with West Indies opener Kraigg Braithwaite on 68. Earlier, Leicestershire’s last pair of Chris Wright and Will Davis put on 92, with Wright scoring 60 and Davis a career best undefeated 39.
Lancashire v Middlesex (Old Trafford)
Keaton Jennings is 90 not out and Liam Livingstone has made an unbeaten half-century with Lancashire 235 for 3, a lead of 157.
Northamptonshire v Durham (Northampton)
Northamptonshire took a big stride towards promotion, reducing Durham to 122 for 6 in pursuit of 402.
After Gloucestershire’s victory earlier today, Durham have to win to retain any hope of going up while a Northants victory would leave them needing only a handful of points at Bristol next week to confirm a return to Division One.
Worcestershire v Gloucestershire (Worcester)
Gloucestershire took a major step towards regaining Division One status for the first time in 14 years by completing a six-wicket victory over Worcestershire.
The visitors resumed on 54-4 in pursuit of a 115 target and nightwatchman Josh Shaw and Miles Hammond secured victory within 50 minutes on the third day with Hammond ended unbeaten on 35 and Shaw 38 with their partnership worth 74. They may now need just a handful of bonus points to secure promotion in their final game against Northamptonshire. ?

Lunch Yorkshire have taken three third morning wickets as they bid to stymie Kent’s pursuit of a second-innings declaration at Emerald Headingley.
Matthew Fisher claimed two of them as Kent advanced their second innings from 2-0 overnight to 124-3 at lunch, a lead of 337.
Kent, who have added 122 runs in 33 overs this morning, remain firmly on top in this penultimate round Specsavers County Championship clash.
But Yorkshire’s hopes of escaping with at least a draw would have been raised when they were not asked to follow-on late last night despite being 213 runs behind.
Fisher uprooted Daniel Bell-Drummond’s off stump as he attempted to leave alone before trapping Zak Crawley lbw, leaving Kent at 23-2 in the eighth over.
South Africa captain Francois du Plessis then shared 78 for the third wicket with wicketkeeper-batsman Ollie Robinson, who remains unbeaten on 50.
Steve Patterson then had du Plessis (36) caught at slip by Tom Kohler-Cadmore as he looked to drive – 101-3 in the 26th.
Robinson reached his fifty off 71 balls with his final ball before lunch. Sam Billings is 15 not out.

Somerset, who have never won the Championship title, need 281 to beat Hampshire in a low-scoring game to retain the lead at the top of Division One from Essex heading into next week’s final round clash between the two counties at Taunton. Essex are on course for victory over Surrey at Chelmsford. Has there ever been a more important run chase in Somerset’s history?

10.33am Kent 8-0 in the fourth over, the second of the morning. Conditions are more overcast than they have been at any stage of the match. Interesting to see how that affects things. They lead by 220.
Good morning from Emerald Headingley.
It is another bright start to the day ahead of the third day in our Specsavers County Championship clash with Kent.
Yesterday, Yorkshire were bowled out for 269 in reply to Kent’s 482-8 declared, but the visitors did not enforce the follow on, a decision which I believe the White Rose dressing room would have been absolutely delighted by.
The reasoning…..
Yorkshire almost batted through the entire day yesterday and were under par with the bat. Yes they were helped by a number of dropped catches, but they held Kent up without a batsman scoring a half-century.
The pitch looks like it should hold up and Yorkshire should bat better second time around. At very best for Kent, they will be bowling by mid-afternoon, more likely tea-time maybe even afterwards. That leaves Yorkshire with around four sessions of batting to do to save the game.
Yorkshire could also have a mad morning and bowl Kent out for 150 in their second innings. That would leave them chasing around 360 to win. That hasn’t been done for a while on this ground has it?
Kent, who have played some really good cricket so far, remain favourites without doubt to win this game, but their grip could just have been loosened somewhat.
