6.56pm – Close – Well, what an opening day that was. Yorkshire have the better of a 17-wicket day, closing on 176-7 in reply to Sussex’s 150. It’s clearly far from an unassailable advantage – nowhere close to it. But it feels like Yorkshire have a significant lead already given the bowler-friendly conditions. If the conditions stay the same, you feel a lead above 50 will provide Sussex with a big issue.

12.50pm – Ten minutes to lunch. Oh how Yorkshire would love to nip another out before the break. Sussex 95-4 in the 25th, bowled by Leech.
12.40pm – John Heald, the photographer who is down here working for Yorkshire this week, has just piped up in the press box, ‘How far’s Hastings away? The reason I ask is that the first wicket fell to a combination of shirt numbers 10 and 66’. Very good! Sussex 91-4.

10.33am – Yorkshire have won the toss and will bowl first. It’s an all seam attack for the visitors.
10.26am – The toss isn’t too far away. Shan Masood is out there in the middle, and Ottis Gibson is in conversation with Jayden Seales.
9.17am – Good morning from The 1st Central County Ground, Hove. It’s a gorgeous morning on the South Coast – lovely sunshine and pretty warm too.
The players are just starting to warm-up here. Ottis Gibson and Shan Masood have been out to have a look at the pitch, and there’s a definite green tinge to it.
Sussex sit atop of the Division Two table and Yorkshire sixth, but there’s only an 18-point gap between the two after five matches. Sussex have won two, drawn two and lost one of their five games, while Yorkshire have drawn four and lost one. Perhaps more significantly, Yorkshire are only eight points behind second-placed Middlesex, who hold the other promotion berth.
Yorkshire continue to include England Test star Joe Root – this is set to be his last Championship appearance in the early block of matches. The plan is for him to rest against Northamptonshire next week. Sussex, meanwhile, will include his international team-mate Ollie Robinson, though they will be missing in-form West Indian quick Jayden Seales because of injury.
