Lunch Report Yorkshire are into the lead at the Micky Stewart Oval, but they only have four second-innings wickets in hand as they bid to turn things around against Surrey on day three.

The county have lost four morning wickets, slipping from 89-2 to 171-6 at lunch, a lead of 17.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore was bowled off the sixth ball of the day, from Cameron Steel’s leg-spin, as the score fell to 94-3 – a deficit of 60 runs.

From there, Will Fraine was bowled by Jordan Clark’s seam and Adam Lyth, for 46, edged West Indian overseas quick Kemar Roach to third slip. Those two fell in the space of three balls in the 38th and 39th over, leaving the visitors at 116-5.

Further damage was done almost 12 overs later when captain Jonny Tattersall edged Jamie Overton behind down leg for 21. By this time, the deficit was into single figures (150-6).

Since then, Dom Bess and Jordan Thompson have taken the visitors into the lead with 24 and seven not out respectively.

11.16am The ECB’s high performance review is out.

The crux of it is as follows, all recommendations which could come in for 2024 if voted through by the counties.

Under the proposals:

  • The start of the County Championship would move from April to May, run through the summer, and then end in September, with teams playing a minimum of 10 games.
  • There would be two second division conferences of six teams, with one promotion place decided by an end-of-season play-off.
  • The One-Day Cup would take place in a single block in April and could include minor counties in an FA Cup-style knockout format.
  • The T20 Blast would reduce from 14 matches to 10 and would also be in a single block from the end of May to end of July.
  • The Hundred would be the only white-ball competition to take place in August, with ‘first-class cricket festivals’ offering specialist red-ball players not competing in that competition the chance to play extra matches.

Any changes to the domestic structure have to be agreed by two-thirds of the 18 first-class counties. The ECB hopes to have a final decision by November with a view of implementing the changes in time for the 2024 season.

11.13am Yorkshire 109-3 in the 36th over. After the early loss of Kohler-Cadmore, Lyth 44 and Fraine eight have steadied the ship.

10.39am After Steel bowled the day’s opening over and broke through, Surrey have opted for the seam of Roach and Worrall. Yorkshire 94-3 in the second innings with Fraine yet to get off the mark and Lyth on 37.

10.34am WICKET! Kohler-Cadmore bowled by Steel, 11. Yorkshire 94-3, trailing by 60.

10.28am In the second team game at Folkstone, which could see Yorkshire secure the Championship, Kent are 59-2 in the second innings with a lead of 86.

Match Report

George Hill

Good morning from the Micky Stewart Oval, where the sun is shining.

The players have just started their warm-ups ahead of a third day which will see Yorkshire bid to fight back into this game having been asked to follow-on 154 runs behind the league leaders.

Yorkshire had a decent start and a decent end to day two but a disastrous middle when we lost our last six first-innings wickets for 40 to be bowled out for 179 in reply to a first-innings 333.

We will resume on 89-2 second time around, with Adam Lyth on 36 and Tom Kohler-Cadmore on seven.

If things go pear-shaped today, Surrey could be crowned county champions. If Hampshire lose against Kent (they are 105-4 chasing 378) and Surrey win, they will claim the title with one round remaining.

Fingers crossed, that is not the case. There will be a live stream available via the Surrey YouTube channel before we get going at 10.30am. Enjoy the day.

We have 104 overs in the day, and every session will be two hours and five minutes long.
