“It’s been a good day.
“When they got through the first hour only losing one, it looked like it could have been a long day. But after lunch, it was a proper bowling performance.
“The pitch is a little bit slower, and it’s not nipping as fast and bouncing as nicely as it was before.
“After the new ball, it’s a nice batting surface. But we showed that you can still get a bit out of it if you’re disciplined.
“At 260-5, they’re looking at a big total. But the way D (Olivier) bowled there, it was fast and hostile.
“Tom took seven catches in the game at Hampshire and six in that first innings. It’s quite phenomenal to actually get that many balls going to a certain person. But he has fabulous hands in the slips, and I wouldn’t expect anything less.
“We know we have a great slip cordon, one, two, three and four when Brooky’s in there as well.
“Generally, if it gets edged and it’s carried, you know it’s going to be taken. It’s a great feeling.”

Essex v Nottinghamshire (Chelmsford)
A ninth-wicket stand of 81 between Peter Siddle and Simon Harmer stretched Essex’s first innings lead to 54. Earlier, Stuart Broad dismissed Sir Alastair Cook for the first time in his career. Luke Fletcher and Matt Carter shared eight of the Essex wickets as they were bowled out for 241.
Somerset v Surrey (Taunton)
England’s left-arm spinner Jack Leach took three wickets in seven overs as Surrey were dismissed for 380. Somerset are 140-3 in reply, with Azhar Ali making 60 and James Hildreth 61 not out.
Kent v Yorkshire (Canterbury)
Kent’s 20-year-old wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson made 103 – his second Championship century of the season – before his side were bowled out for 296, a lead of 86. Alex Blake needed a concussion check after he was struck by Duanne Olivier. Yorkshire are 42 for 1 in their second innings.
Warwickshire v Hampshire (Edgbaston)
Tom Alsop contributed a career-best 150 before Hampshire were bowled out for 354, Jeetan Patel (6 for 97) taking the 35th five-wicket haul of his career. Warwickshire are 88 for 3 in reply.
DIVISION TWO
Glamorgan v Gloucestershire (Newport)
Ryan Higgins’ 89-ball century hoisted Glamorgan to 463 and the hosts are 136 for 4 in reply.
Middlesex v Leicestershire (Lord’s)
Middlesex were dismissed for 349 but after reducing Leicestershire to 113 for 4 they were frustrated by an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 76 between Harry Dearden and Colin Ackermann.
Worcestershire v Durham (Worcester)
Rikki Wessels is unbeaten on 90 and debutant Josh Dell has scored an undefeated half-century as Worcestershire make steady progress after dismissing Durham for 273 on day one. They have put on 131 to take their side to 195 for 4.
Lancashire v Northamptonshire (Old Trafford)
Just one wicket has fallen so far on day two. Keaton Jennings is 93 not out and Rob Jones is unbeaten on 61 and Lancashire are 183 for 2, trailing by 47.
Tea Yorkshire restricted Kent to a first-innings lead of 86 and then almost halved that with the bat during the second afternoon of their Specsavers County Championship match.
Kent, responding to 210 all out, fell from 261-5 to 296 all out as Duanne Olivier and Ben Coad equally shared four wickets and debutant Dom Bess struck once.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore finished with six catches in the innings, a Yorkshire joint record for an outfielder in first-class cricket. Ellis Robinson also took six against Leicestershire at Bradford in 1938.
For Kent, 20-year-old wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson hit 103 from 181 balls with eleven fours, his second century in as many Championship games.
But he was one of the dismissals as Kent lost their last five wickets for 35, leaving the visitors with 14 overs to bat before tea.
Olivier and Coad both finished with three wickets apiece, while Kohler-Cadmore has now taken 22 catches in all cricket for Yorkshire this season.
Yorkshire then reached tea at 42-1 from 14 overs in their second innings, losing Harry Brook caught behind for 13 off Freddie Klaasen’s first ball. Adam Lyth reached 24 not out.

1.42pm We’re up and running for the afternoon session, and Yorkshire need wickets. Kent are 248-5, leading by 38. Bess and Olivier in operation.
Lunch Kent have dominated the second morning against Yorkshire at Canterbury and hold a first-innings lead of 34 with five wickets remaining.
Yorkshire, who made 210, only struck once before lunch, Steve Patterson getting Zak Crawley caught and bowled for 81 to leave the hosts at 157-5.
But wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson and sixth-wicket partner Alex Blake are threatening to take the game away from the White Rose, with Kent reaching lunch at 244-5 from 69 overs.
Robinson reached an off-side dominant fifty off 103 balls and was later dropped behind on 71 down the leg-side by Jonny Tattersall off Duanne Olivier.
Blake ducked into an Olivier bouncer, forcing a concussion check during the second half of the session.
Robinson will begin the afternoon on 80 and Blake on 30.
2nd XI update: Yorkshire captain Jared Warner has claimed a five-wicket-haul to reduce Worcestershire to 100 for 7.

Good morning from Canterbury. Thankfully it’s a much warmer start to day two of this County Championship match between Yorkshire and Kent.
The hosts had the better of day one, but not by a distance, and two or three early wickets will bring it firmly back into the balance.
Kent, replying to 210, start the day on 130-4 on a pitch offering help to the bowlers.
The players are currently warming up in the nets, with Harry Brook facing Mat Pillans as I type.
Elsewhere yesterday, Jonny Bairstow scored a superb century for England as they beat Pakistan at Bristol in the ODI and David Willey took a stunning one-handed return catch.
