Yorkshire CCC are devastated to learn that Keith Moss MBE, who held high office with both our county club and the Bradford Cricket League, died at the age of 91 on Wednesday.
His close involvement with Yorkshire began in 1991 when he was elected to the general committee as a Bradford district representative, and he took over as finance chair the following year.
In 1998, he succeeded Sir Lawrence Byford as club chair, and the highlight of his five years in that post came in 2001 when Yorkshire clinched the County Championship title for the first time in 33 years.
It was also whilst in that role that Yorkshire began the first stages of the complete redevelopment of Headingley.
But the club’s dire financial situation resulted in the committee system ending ahead of the 2003 season when the board was formed, with the ‘Gang of Four’ – chief executive Colin Graves, chair Robin Smith, director of finance Brian Bouttell and director of cricket Geoff Cope – taking control.
Keith’s association with Bradford League club Pudsey St Lawrence began in 1976 after spending 25 years as secretary of Fulneck Cricket Club.
He became St Lawrence’s chair and president, sometimes combining the two roles, and shortly after his time with Yorkshire he was installed as president of the Bradford League and went on to become the only person in the league’s history to be twice awarded the Sir Leonard Hutton Trophy.
He was a close friend of Sir Leonard, and for many years up to the start of Covid he organised the annual Sir Leonard Hutton 364 luncheon at Headingley, which was one of the social highlights of the cricket season.
It was in 2010 that Keith was awarded the MBE for his services to cricket.

A service of thanksgiving for the life of Keith will take place on Friday 17th April at Fulneck Moravian Church, commencing at 12:00pm.
The service will be followed by a reception at Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club.
