Dad is always right. Will Fraine knows that better than most following a pre-Christmas prediction with regards to the start of the young batsman’s Yorkshire career.

“Notts at Trent Bridge first up. Classic! But my dad called it,” explained 22-year-old Fraine, an early winter recruit from Nottinghamshire.

He said, ‘Do you know what, you’re going to playing against Notts first game at Trent Bridge’. I said, ‘No, it’ll never be’. But they’re always right, aren’t they.”

So, with Fraine senior, Mike, spot on, it is now down to Will to make sure he does everything he can to ensure he is in the mix for selection when the Specsavers County Championship opener takes place, starting April 5.

“I’d love it if I was selected. I’m sure I’ll get a bit of stick from their lads,” he said.

“I know their bowlers and they know my game. It would be a really good challenge.

“They’re a good team with a lot of depth. But we will be ready and raring to go after a long, hard-working winter.”
