Eric Sutton, a founder member of the Yorkshire CCC Players’ Association, died in St. James’ Hospital, Leeds, on May 26, aged 87.

Born in Otley on January 29, 1932, Eric kept wicket several times for Yorkshire Seconds from the mid-50s until the early 60s, playing alongside many who would become household names and Championship winners with the County.

He began his cricket with Menston CC in the Aire-Wharfe League before moving into the Bradford League where he enjoyed spells with Lidget Green, Farsley, Salts and Yeadon.

Eric was also a fine rugby player, turning out for Otley RUFC before being signed by Bradford Northern where he spent three seasons from 1955, playing in 49 matches and scoring 12 tries. He then had spells with Batley and Dewsbury.

He leaves a widow, Shirley, a son and two daughters. His funeral service takes place next Monday, June 17, at Rawdon Crematorium, at 2.20pm.
