Scorecard

England produced an efficient team performance to beat New Zealand by 142 runs at Emerald Headingley and go 1-0 up in the Royal London ODI series.

Having won the toss on a pitch that was taking a bit of turn Amy Jones and Heather Knight impressed most for the hosts, making 63 apiece as England reached 290/5.

Chasing was unlikely to be easy on a pitch that suited pace-off-the-ball and despite a good start for New Zealand – Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine put on 70 for the first wicket – they could only make 148.

The wickets were shared around with Nat Sciver, Laura Marsh and Georgia Elwiss doing most of the damage. Debutant Katie George wrapped things up with her maiden ODI wicket.
