Ben Coad believes tonight’s evening session was another example of how Yorkshire just aren’t winning the key moments in matches so far this season.

New-ball seamer Coad praised the efforts of the bowlers and batters during a third day which ended in frustration.

Yorkshire, chasing 463 to win, ended on 176-5.

They lost four wickets during the evening session, slipping from a position of promise at 114-1.

Nottinghamshire spinner Liam Patterson-White prised out three key wickets; Adam Lyth, Dawid Malan and, for an innings-high 58, James Wharton.

Then, in the day’s final over, Dillon Pennington got Harry Duke caught behind with a snorter of a delivery.

At the start of the day, Notts advanced their second innings from 227-3 to 393-8 declared.

“We fought hard with the ball with some tired bodies,” said Coad, who claimed three wickets.

“It’s been a heavy schedule these last seven games. We put our all in there and fought hard with the bat as well.

“It was a bit frustrating to lose a few more wickets than we’d have wanted at the end, and it wasn’t where we wanted to end up. We’ll give it everything tomorrow. We’re obviously behind the eight-ball, but we’ll keep going and see what we can do.”

Coad continued: “We’ve spoken a lot about being good, really good, in patches this season. We just need to string it together session by session and day after day rather than just doing it in little patches.

“There’s some good things we can focus on, but we know we need to be better in the crucial parts as well.

“That’s one of those moments towards the end there.

“If we only lose two wickets instead of five, then it’s game on for even trying to win the game rather than now battling for a draw.”

Coad’s 3-64 from 25 overs in the second innings, took his season’s tally to 16 wickets.

He added: “I didn’t feel great with the ball, to be honest, in the first few games. But the Surrey game last week and this one, it’s felt like I’ve been back close to my best again.

“I just couldn’t seem to find any edges at all.

“I think something like 25 percent of my balls were plays and misses, and another day I get five-for. It just wasn’t to be.

“If I keep bowling like that, I’ll get more rewards.”
