Everyone at the Yorkshire County Cricket Club would like to congratulate Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjay Patel who has been honoured with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

Patel, who took on the CEO role at the Club last September following a period as a Non-Executive Director, has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to cricket and The Hundred in the King’s Birthday Honours list.

Whilst working at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Patel played a pivotal role in setting up and making a success of The Hundred in his role as Managing Director of the competition. Having set out to change the landscape of the game, The Hundred has seen a growth in the games audience with more families attending fixtures across the country, whilst also helping to grow participation at the grass roots level and more recently presenting a significant opportunity to attract external investment into the game.

Yorkshire CCC’s Chair Colin Graves, who worked alongside Patel to set up The Hundred during his tenure as Chair at ECB, said: “It’s fantastic to see Sanjay honoured for his outstanding contribution to cricket.

“Having worked closely with him whilst I was at ECB, I’ve seen first-hand the remarkable dedication he has had to ensuring The Hundred would be a success, expanding the reach of the game and providing a platform for financial stability for the whole game.

“The figures that have been achieved across the whole game since the introduction of the competition have been outstanding – really game-changing.

“Sanjay is a brilliant leader and we are lucky to have him with us at Yorkshire during one of the most pivotal and exciting times in our history.”

Nasa Hussain, the head of grounds at Bradford Park Avenue (BPA), has also been honoured with an MBE. Hussain is a popular figure in the recreational game having enjoyed a successful career in the leagues, before playing a pivotal role in the re-development of BPA. The decision to award him the honour will be popular with anyone who has worked with him, or seen his incredible hard work and dedication to BPA and the wider community.
