Harry Brook spoke of a hugely frustrating night as Yorkshire’s Vitality Blast campaign was subjected to a wet start at Emerald Headingley tonight.

The Vikings players were left kicking their heels in the dressing room and the indoor nets as their clash with Nottinghamshire was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Rain early in the day and then again either side of the scheduled 6.30pm start time ruined any chances of play, with umpires Ian Blackwell and Peter Hartley abandoning proceedings at 7.45pm.

Yorkshire will finally hope to get their campaign underway against Derbyshire Falcons at Chesterfield tomorrow afternoon (2.30pm).

“It’s extremely frustrating,” said batsman Brook.

“All the lads are looking forward to playing in this competition so much. I didn’t even know it was supposed to rain. It didn’t feel like it was going to stop.”

Yorkshire had high hopes for a crowd above 10,000 for this fixture as a fabulous week for English cricket, highlighted by Sunday’s stunning World Cup final victory, heads towards a close.

“It’s a shame because it’s been a really good week for sport in general if you also add the Wimbledon tennis finals to England winning the World Cup,” said Brook.

“From our point of view, you’d also add us beating Somerset in the Championship into that.

“It was a good win for us in the week because Somerset were top of the league. It brought us a lot of confidence going into this competition.”

The Vikings next home fixture is the sold out Roses clash with Lancashire on Thursday evening, their fourth game of the North Group.

Sandwiched in between Derbyshire and Lancashire, Yorkshire face Leicestershire at Grace Road on Tuesday evening.
