Ben Coad admits he and Yorkshire were left wanting more after day one of their Rothesay County Championship clash with outgoing champions Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Jonny Bairstow won the toss and asked Notts’ to bat on a green-tinged pitch, and they closed on 242-9.
Ben Cliff impressed with 4-39 to continue his superb recent form, while Ben Coad struck twice added to a wicket apiece for Messrs Hill, White and Revis.
Notts’ captain and opener Haseeb Hameed top-scored with a defiant 71.
Coad said: “We’re fairly happy.
“I think from where we were to get it to 240-9, we’re happy with that. But I think winning the toss and bowling on there, we were expecting to maybe have them for a bit less.
“It almost skidded on at the start, and then the second new ball seemed to do more on there where it’s dented a bit and it started doing a bit more towards the end.
“But I still think we could have bowled a little bit better and challenged the forward defence a bit more throughout the day.
“There’s a lot of maidens there, which I’m very happy with from the boys. I just think we were a little bit short throughout the day.”
Coad continued: I think we’d have liked to try to get them closer to 200,
“But, after they were 170-3 I think, to get them to 240-9 is a great effort.”
On the day’s standout performer, Cliff, who took eight wickets in the first innings against Essex last week, Coad added: “The way he works off the field, the ability he has on the field, you could see this was coming.
“I said to him before today, that eight-for sets your stall out and you know you can do it.
“I just think you’ll see him grow and grow from there, and again another great performance from him today.”
