The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan as captains for the 2025 Rothesay County Championship and Vitality Blast, respectively.

Bairstow will take the helm as red-ball captain as Yorkshire look towards a thrilling Division One campaign.

The Bradford-born wicketkeeper is looking forward to leading the squad saying, “I am incredibly proud to have been named captain of Yorkshire. The county is embedded in my heart, and I take immense pride in representing the Club on the field.

“To now be able to do that as captain, in what will be an exciting season, is a real honour.

“We have a gifted group at Yorkshire who are young and hungry for success. Our domestic and overseas recruits are of a really high calibre, and it is now time for us to establish ourselves back in the top division.

“I’m as excited for the year ahead as I’ve ever been and can’t wait to get going.”

Malan, who signed a new 2-year contract in 2024 will take the reins of the T20 side this year, having been an integral part of the white-ball side in his time so far at Headingley.

On his appointment, the left-hander Malan said, “Since being at Yorkshire we’ve played some positive and encouraging T20 cricket. Having played at Finals Day in 2022 with the Club, I believe we have a squad that’s good enough to reach finals day and if we perform to our potential then there’s no reason why we can’t be there this year.

“Speaking with Anthony, it’s clear our approach to T20 cricket is aligned and I’m looking forward to getting started with our first game on 30th May.”

Anthony McGrath, Head Coach of Yorkshire CCC said of both appointments, “Jonny and Dawid are two of our most senior players and both bring unrivalled international experience to the team.

“The leadership qualities that they both have will undoubtedly stand us in good stead ahead of both competitions. To have word-class players in the team, let alone, having both as captains, will mean our younger lads will learn a lot this year playing alongside them.”

With the announcement of the Club’s two captains for 2025, Yorkshire CCC would like to take this opportunity to place on record its immense gratitude to Shan Masood for his service to the Club.

Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket, said “Shan played an integral role, both with his batting and his captaincy, in getting the Club promoted to Division One and led from the front with distinction. He was as liked and respected off the pitch as much as he was on it.

“Shan will remain a friend of the Club going forward and everyone at Yorkshire CCC would like to wish him well for the future.”
