Fast bowler Cameron Cooper has been speaking of his pride following his recent appointment as Yorkshire’s new D40 Quest captain.
Cooper, 23, is an England Physical Disability squad player and a graduate of the Yorkshire Cricket College.
He was appointed in November as Matt Bateman’s replacement, with the latter struggling to overcome a finger injury, meaning his availability for 2025 is in doubt.
Cooper, who plays regular league cricket for Pickering, has progressed from Yorkshire’s vice captain.
He said: “It was a brilliant moment for me.
“This is something I’ve worked for for a few years now.
“I’ve been vice captain under three different lads and leaders in James O’Conner, Gordon Laidlaw and Matt (Bateman). I’ve learnt a lot from all of them.
“To do it at such a young age as well, it’s something I hope I can do for as long as I play. I’m very proud.”
We will be publishing an in-depth interview with Cameron on yorkshireccc.com later this month.

North Leeds Cricket Club and the Northern Cricket Society once again played their Boxing Day fixture at the former’s Homestead venue, for the 50th time, last month.
On December 26, 2024, it was also the 75th Anniversary of the Northern Cricket Society first sending out a team on Boxing Day, the society first meeting Collingham in 1949 – the second year of the society’s existence.
Covid apart, they have maintained the tradition each year since.
For much of this fixture’s history, it has raised money for a number of charities, most recently St Gemma’s Hospice. Approximately £5,000 has been raised over the last two decades.
In the 2024 fixture, a 25-over affair, NCS won by 28 runs. Batting first, they posted 204-5 before restricting North Leeds to 176-4 in reply.
