Yorkshire’s Vitality Blast overseas star Nicholas Pooran played his part in one of the more memorable one-day internationals last night, with the West Indies pipping Ireland in a thriller in Barbados.
Pooran’s 52 was the hosts’ top score as they chased down 238 to win by one wicket with a ball to spare, going 2-0 up in a three-match series in the process.
The left-hander, who will return to Emerald Headingley this summer for a second spell of Blast cricket, came to the crease with the chase tottering at 24-3, only to help recover things to 140-4.
However, Pooran was one of three wickets to fall as the Irish reasserted their authority at 148-7 before a lower order fightback took the game to the wire.
The equation became six off eight balls with one wicket remaining and then two off two balls. Last man Sheldon Cottrell promptly hoisted seamer Mark Adair over cover for six to send the Kensington Oval wild.
Unfortunately for the Irish, Adair fumbled two run out opportunities in the last over, letting the ball slip from his grasp following returned throws to the stumps.
