The Yorkshire Academy visited top of the table and last year’s Champions York on Saturday.

It was a hot day at Clifton Lane and the home captain Dan
Woods won the toss and elected to bat.

The home side were struggling at 17 for 2 in the sixth over before Jack Leaning and Finlay Bean took the total to 63 in the 24th over before Bean became the third batsman to be dismissed. Charlie Elliott joined Leaning and they put on 72 from 91 balls for the fourth wicket before Elliott was dismissed for 46 (7 fours). Spearman followed shortly afterwards. Leaning was bowled for an excellent 68 from 93 balls with 5 fours with the total on 195 for 6 in the 48th over. Wicket keeper Tom Brooks contributed 40 as the home side reached 222 for 8 from the 50 overs. It was a good comeback for the home side in the second half of the innings.

The wicket takers were Eddie Barnes 2 for 33, Matthew Taylor 3 for 50, Harrison Quarmby 1 for 31 and Josh Sullivan 2 for 39.
In the reply Revis fell with the total on 19 in the 5th over. Bilal Anjam was the second wicket to fall at 32. Tom Loten joined opener James Wharton and they took the score to 58 before Loten was dismissed. The fourth wicket fell one run later. Captain Ben Birkhead joined Wharton and they put together an excellent partnership of 82 for the 5th wicket from 80 balls before Birkhead was given out for 46 from 46 balls with 7 fours. The next wicket fell at 158 with Wharton becoming the 7th wicket to fall at 160 with his own contribution of 66 from 107 balls with 9 fours. The last three wickets fell in the space of 6 balls as the Yorkshire Academy were dismissed for 167 in 42.1 overs.

Jonathan Moxon 4 for 34, Guy Darwin 2 for 16, Alex Rose 1 for 35 and Dan Woods 2 for 31.

At the halfway stage of the season the Academy are 6th in the table, with York 13 points clear at the top.
